National Institute of Design Ahmedabad Paldi Answered Questions

The National Institute of Design (NID) will release the eligibility criteria for the NID DAT for the B.Des and M.Des courses through the respective admission handbooks. The eligibility criteria outlines requirements like academic qualification, minimum marks, age limit, number of attempts, etc.  

Candidates seekling admission to the M.Des programme must have complete their 3-year or 4-year Bachelor Degree programme in any discipline.Candidates who have done full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognised by law in India, may also apply. 

Indian Nationals belonging to General Category and General EWS Category need to be born on or after 1 July 2005 to apply for admission. Relaxation of 3-year and 5-year applies to candidates belonging to OBC-NCL.ST/SC and PwD candidates respectively.

Sad news NID admissions for B.Des are strictly through the entrance test (NID DAT). There usually isn't any “backdoor” or alternate route for admissions unless you qualify under rare reserved/foreign or supernumerary categories. Always verify with the official NID notifications for exceptions.

Applications for NID DAT 2026 will open in September 2025 (tentatively). Candidates who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2025–26 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or equivalent could apply.

Candidates are required to download the application form in the official site of NID Ahmedabad to make their applications online. These are the registration via email and mobile number, and through these, students log in and complete personal and academic information. They will have to also upload the necessary documents and pay the fee of application online. It is possible to save the process and finish it later when it is necessary.

Well I think Admissions for the B.Des and M.Des programs at NID Ahmedabad for the academic year 2025–26 are now closed. The application process ended on December 6, 2024, and the correction window was open until December 11, 2024. Following that, all admission stages including the DAT Prelims, DAT Mains, result announcements, and seat allotment rounds have already been completed by June 2025. As of now, no new applications are being accepted for this academic cycle. If you are interested in applying to NID Ahmedabad, you will need to wait for the next admission cycle for the academic year 2026–27, which is expected to begin around September 2025. In the meantime, you can consider applying to other design institutions that may still have open admissions or start preparing for the next NID entrance exam.

MDes programme NID Ahmedabad has 19 specialisations in the 3 campuses. These are Animation, Graphic Design, Product Design, Furniture and Interior Design and so on. These are separated into four faculty members such as Industrial Design and IT Integrated Design. Learners will find it possible to select on the basis of their own interest, and portfolio.

Yes NID Ahmedabad does offer Postgraduate Scholarships to meritorious MDes students. These are on an academic / financial merit basis. Students who have been selected could also be given a monthly stipend or the financial help based on the project work. The university has elaborate policy on funds use and eligibility which is published every year.
