The list of NIDs includes institutes that will accept NID DAT 2025 scores for admission to their B.Des and M.Des courses. Currently, the B.Des program is offered at 5 NIDs and has an intake of 425 seats, while the M.Des program is available at 3 NIDs and has 347 seats earmarked for Indian nationals. The National Institute of Design (NID) is the first design school to be declared an ‘Institution of National Importance’ by an Act in the Indian Parliament. Initially known as the National Institute of Industrial Design, NID was established in 1961. An autonomous institute under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, NID is famous for offering B.Des specialisation in Industrial, Communication, Textile, and IT Integrated (Experiential) Design.

The NIDs offer B.Des, M.Des, and Ph.D courses. Admission to these courses will be based on the NID DAT entrance exam, which comprises DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. The NID DAT 2025 (Prelims) was held on January 5, 2025.

Q:   Is there any age limit for appearing in NIFT entrance?
A:

In case of the B. Des and B.FTech programmes, the candidates should be less than 24 years as on July 1 of the admission year. There is relaxation of 5 years for candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories. However, there is no age limit for applying to the postgraduate programmes at NIFT. When applying for admission to design courses at the NIFTs, the candidate must also carefully go through the academic requirements. Note that even if a candidate qualifies the NIFT Entrance Exam but doesn't meet the prescribed eligibility criteria, he or she will not be considered for admission.

Q:   Is Maths required for NIFT?
A:

It is not compulsory to have studied Maths in Class 12 to appear for NIFT Entrance Exam. However, some questions from Mathematics are asked in the NIFT GAT section. Therefore, it is always beneficial to have some knowledge about the subject. The NIFT question paper for GAT will include questions from sections like logical and analytical reasoning, general awareness, verbal reasoning, and English . General knowledge questions may include topics like fashion industry, both local and global, and news of political and economic importance. The GAT paper will be conducted in a computer-based mode and will be for 120 minutes.

Q:   What is NIFT 2024 opening and closing ranks of NIFT Bengaluru for open category?
A:

The NIFT Bengaluru admission cut-offs are now available for Round I, II, and III.

The cut-off has been released for all the 18 participating colleges.

To check the cut-off, you need to go to the https://admissions.nic.in/ portal.

Under eServices, select OR-CR.

The roundwise NIFT 2024 cut-off or closing rank (All-India Quota) for the open category for NIFT Bengaluru for the 3rd Round are given below:

  • Round I - 29 (opening rank), 234 (closing rank)
  • Round II - 208 (opening rank), 236 (closing rank)
  • Round III - 256 (closing rank)

DAT Prelims is conducted in an offline, pen-and-paper model. On the day of the exam, candidates need to report to the NID DAT 2025 exam center with all valid documents, including the NID DAT 2025 admit card. Also, make sure that you follow the NID DAT 2025 exam-day guidelines.

Q:   What is the eligibility criteria for NIFT 2025?
A:

The eligibility criteria may differ depending on the course opted by the candidate. For instance, candidates seeking admission to the B. Des course needs to have passed 10+2 exam from a recognised institute and should be less than 24 years as of August 1, 2025. Relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit applies for candidates belonging to SC, ST and PwD candidates.

Q:   How can I get admission for B.Des in NID Jorhat?
A:

In order to get admission at NID Jorhat, candidates must meet the eligibility criteria set by the college. Candidates must pass Class 12 in any stream. For more details students can check the table presented below:

Q:   I belong to the SC category? Will I be considered for NIFT admission under open category?
A:

Yes, candidates belonging to the SC, and other reserved categories will be considered for admission under both the respective and open categories.

Considering you belong to the SC category, this means you will be considered for open and SC admission lists. If you meet the cut-off in any of these lists, you will get admission.

But the institute you are being allocated will depend on the course you have selected (and their order of priority) at the time of choice-filling. Note that if you are not offered the first preferred seat, you are typically considered for upgradation in subsequent rounds.

Q:   What is the admission process at NID Jorhat?
A:

NID Jorhat admission process is completely online. Students can apply for GDPD offered at this campus by visiting the online application form. The form is available at the admission website of NID where students need to register themselves. The final selection is done on the basis of an entrance test, i.e., DAT.

Application process:

1- Students need to signup using a valid email address and a mobile number.

2- Log in with the same registered mobile number to fill the application form.

3- Students need to enter the basic details like name, DOB, address, gender and then click on ‘save and proceed’ to proceed.

4- Students are required to upload the mentioned documents in jpg/jpeg format: a recent passport size coloured photograph, scanned signature, caste certificate issued by a competent authority.

5- Click on save and proceed to pay the application fee online or offline. You may also click on save and exit to complete the form at a later date or time.

Q:   What is the minimum qualifying criteria for NID admissions?
A:

The minimum qualifying criteria for NID 2025 is the minimum marks the candidate needs to secure for admission. The category-wise cut-off would be released at the time of counseling and seat allotment. The cut-off would be prepared by considering factors like the total number of applicants, the merit ranks of applicants in NID DAT 2025, seat intake for the applied programme, etc. Note that if the seat allotment for NID that is conducted in multiple rounds, then a separate cut-off would be prepared for each round. And candidates who meet the cut-off criteria for that round will get admission.

NID Admission Process

Admission to all the courses offered at NID is based on an aspirant’s performance in the NID 2025 Entrance Exam. The NID admission process is conducted in two stages

  1. NID DAT Prelims and NID DAT Mains.
  2. NID DAT Prelims comprises a written entrance exam. Shortlisted candidates are eligible to appear in the DAT Main.

DAT Mains will include a Studio Test. However, M.Des candidates must take a personal interview, to go with the Studio Test.

The final NID DAT 2025 result is prepared by allotting 30% to the candidate’s score in NID DAT Prelims and 70% weightage to NID DAT Mains.

NID Cutoffs

NID releases category-wise cutoffs for each course offered at its campuses. Aspirants must meet NID DAT 2025 cutoffs to be eligible for admission in BDes and MDes courses offered at this design college.
