The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Imphal has a 50% minimum cutoff point for undergraduate Diploma. Candidates who have completed their degree examination with at least 50% of the possible points are eligible to apply for NIELIT Imphal's UG Diploma courses. The Institute does not administer significant entrance exams for admission to its UG Diploma programmes; instead, admissions are made primarily based on merit and the results of previous degree or school board exams.

NIELIT Imphal admission is open throughout the year for enrolment of short-term courses. The selection for long term courses is based on NIELIT Entrance Exam. NIELIT Imphal offers undergraduate, diploma, certificate, and several other courses to students. These courses are provided across the Computer Application and various other streams. The formal courses provided by the college are Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering (DECE), Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering (DCSE),  BCA, PGDCA,  and MCA. The non-formal long-term courses offered by the college are O Level IT, MAT O-Level, and CHM O Level. There are various other courses offered by the college.

Aspirants need to pay the course fee after selection to confirm their seat in the institute. Besides, candidates also need to pay an application fee of INR 500 in the start to register for the course.

Nonetheless, the Indian government recognises both institutes, which are a part of the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT). As per their prospectus, NIELIT Imphal employs MOODLE as their learning management system (LMS) along with an array of other tools and methodologies for both synchronous and asynchronous learning. According to the NIELIT website, NIELIT Shimla has good infrastructure, including six large classrooms located outside of the city in the lower Jakhoo area.
