Discontinued (NOV 2025) M.A. in Mass Communication (Audio Visual) - Batch of 2024

My honest review about my college.
Placements: Placements in general are quite great because of how longstanding the university's reputation is. I am especially pleased with the internship opportunities provided, because of which I even landed a job. However, one batch in every few years may face the brunt of a bad job market. But students can keep in touch with their classmates/seniors for opportunities. I worked with The News Minute and The Hindu Businessline. Other big media companies also frequent the university. Students will have to do two mandatory internships, one summer and one winter.
Infrastructure: Every student is allotted a 2-sharing or 3-sharing room, each with an in-built washroom. Each room also has its own Wi-Fi. The rooms are somewhat spacious. There is enough privacy, also. They are not too concerned about what you do in your private space, except for abusing alcohol/other substances. The hostels also have cleaning staff, so students don't have to worry about cleaning.
Faculty: During the course of two years, the college brought in at least 7 different guest faculty who are experts in their respective fields. Our in-house faculty are also very qualified and experienced in their own ways. The curriculum is designed keeping in mind the industry requirements. Every student could select among the plethora of options offered, picking their own interests and pursuing them further. With the option of electives and flexi-credit courses, there is exposure to almost every type of media.

My review of this college.
Placements: Placements were 100%. The average package offered was 10 LPA. Job opportunities were great. Top news channels like IBN7, Headlines Today, Star News, NDTV, India TV, and Times Now came for recruitment. Almost two-thirds of my batch got placed successfully. The others got placed. The average package was 4 LPA-6 LPA at the start, with the highest package going up to 21 LPA. Every student had to undergo an internship for 2 months after the 1st year of their course. The college's placement team helped students get a good internship through on-campus opportunities.
Infrastructure: Hostel rooms are awesome, clean, and good services are provided. Wi-Fi is available. Mess offered good, varied food respecting all festivals, genders, ethnicity, race, religion, etc. The mess food was mostly better than expected, and there were also other eateries. Hostel accommodation accommodated all as it offered a full-time residential course.
Faculty: The best thing about the faculty at SIMC was that they were not only professors but also mentors and facilitators. Every student in the course had a different perspective about communication design, so it is important for the faculty to understand the students' perspective and doubts, which were handled extremely well at SIMC. The semester system was a CGPA system, so the pass marks depended on the average score. Every semester, there were 6 subjects. But, 40 marks for the semester exam as external and 60 marks for internal exams and assignments were done in each subject during the semester. The courses were very well-defined, with each semester the bar being raised so that proper knowledge enhancement was done for the students. Each module had its section for research. There was a process to be followed for each subject.

Teachers are helpful in nature.
Placements: In the year 2023 placement season, 100% students of in journalism get placed. The average package offered by the companies is Rs 7,10,000/- per year. The highest package offered by the companies is Rs 12,00,000/- per year. The top recruiters are Network 18, The Times of India, etc. Coming for the campus placement.
Infrastructure: The studio with a chroma studio, a massive shooting floor, a PCR room, a Teleprompter Pro System, 2 studio cameras, and audio equipment. The central library has a collection of over 2 Lacs books on various topics as well as a wide range of journals and magazines.
Faculty: The teachers are friendly in nature and guide the students for the future as well as for their careers. The teachers are well qualified and have a great knowledge of the subject. This course makes the students industry-ready. The exams are held semester-wise as well as mid-semester-wise.

All round development at SIMC.
Placements: The highest salary in the past year was 13L PA, with the lowest being around 4LPA and the average is around 6-6.5 LPA. The top roles offered vary from specialisation to specialisation and also according to the need on the organisation. However, to name a few, brand manager, media planner, PR professional, journalist etc. 100% of students from my batch secured an internship even amidst a pandemic.
Infrastructure: In the academic block, we have great facilities of classrooms and labs for MBA students and proper studios and work stations for M.A. students. We have a Wi-Fi in the Academic block and a huge library with a set of computers in it (Apart from the ones in the computer lab). There are 2 hostels both for girls as well as the boys to accommodate us. We have a LAN system for the internet in the hostels and attached bathrooms. We have a 2 floor mess which serves 3 meals and high tea in the evening. Apart from that we have 2 canteens and certain departmental stores in the campus. Our campus facilitate each and every sport from football, to basketball, to badminton to swimming to chess and carrom too.
Faculty: The teachers are very much knowledgeable. Not only that but we also have a lot of industry experts who teach us as the visiting faculty to keep us updated about the current industry norms. The course structure and the curriculum is pretty decent and helpful.
Other: The reason why I chose this course was because it is a blend of both management as well as media. SIMC is the only college in the country that provides and MBA degree in Communication management. It not only focuses on academics but on the overall development of the students. I can say so with confidence because I have seen a change in myself. It is a student run college, hence all the events are managed and organised by the students itself.

Placements could have been better in 2015.
Placements: Most of the students from our batch got placed. The top advertising and PR agencies usually visit our college for recruitment. Apart from that, a lot of corporate firms also visit here. I specialised in PR, and during my tenure, companies like Edelman, Weber Shandwick, Perfect Relations and GBM had visited our college for placements. But major corporates which visit here mostly prefer students who have the experience, which is a bit disappointing thing. The placement cell also didn't really perform much in terms of salary negotiation with firms.
Infrastructure: Like any other college, the quality of the food served in our college mess was also pretty average. Since Symbiosis Lavale Campus is situated on the hills, you don't get many options to have food. You can have only the mess food. However, there is a gym which is pretty good, and the campus was highly active. There were a lot of options for students in sports and cultural activities. Our college has a pool, massive football ground, squash court and a badminton court.
Faculty: Guest faculty members were really good here. During our tenure, the dean of our college is Mr. Chandan Chatterjee, who used to make students not to depend on others. The course curriculum needs to be improved a little. It doesn't make students industry-ready, but overall, it is decent.
Other: A lot of events are organised on the campus all the time. Since Lavale Campus houses four colleges, there is a lot of scope to interact with students of other colleges. The campus crowd is really good.

Really good experience and would definitely recommend this college.
Placements: Above 90% students are placed unless you choose to venture on your own. The highest package was 14L and the lowest was 5L. Top recruiting companies will be Kantar, Group, Vedanta, Publicizes, Cognizant etc. 100% students got internship in companies like Jio Saavn, Group, Gozoop, Wedding Sutra, Watconsult etc. Roles offered usually involve social media manager, content manager, research associate etc.
Infrastructure: The facilities are great. No AC in the hostels and you don't need it too because it's pretty chilly most of the time on the hills. The classrooms are great with gallery style seating and projectors and whiteboards. The food is standard and there are other options of food available.
Faculty: Most of the teachers are Ph.D. They are extremely helpful and guide us all the time. The overall atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. The media industry is always evolving and the course also keeps on changing. We have AR, VR courses now since it's becoming so popular.
Other: I chose this course because I wanted to work at an ad agency. The best thing is the knowledge that you gain and the relevance of the course. We have Fest-o-comm which is the annual fest conducted by SIMC. We have different circles and cells for extracurriculars. The campus is beautiful and picturesque.

SIMC Pune Cutoff FAQs

Q:   How many attempts are allowed in SNAP exam?
A:

Every candidate can make three attempts in SNAP exam. The SNAP exam is conducted in three sessions in a gap of one or two weeks. Candidates can mention their number of attempts in the SNAP application form. However, they will have to pay application fee per session. Thus, candidates who are sure of making multiple attempts only then they should apply for multiple sessions as the fee amount is non-refundable.  The scores of best attempt will be taken into consideration for shortlisting of candidates for Group Exercise, Personal Interview and Writing Ability Test.

Ideally candidates must take all three attempts as the difficulty level of the sessions could be different and it may so happen that one session is easy and candidates can score high in that.
