Tolani Maritime Institute Diploma Eligibility & Highlights 2025

Tolani Maritime Institute offers a one-year residential UG Diploma course, which is a Pre Sea Deck Cadet Course leading to a Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS). This diploma programme is followed by one and half years (3 Semesters) of on-board ship training and after successful completion of the same, a candidate is awarded an Advanced Diploma in Nautical Science (ADNS). For this course, TMI only accepts Registered Shipping Company sponsored candidates. At TMI, most candidates are sponsored by registered shipping companies such as Fleet Management, MSc, Nortans, Scorpio Marine Management, Tolani Shipping, etc.

At Tolani Maritime Institute, the DNS course is offered in affiliation with IMU. Admission to this course is based on an entrance exam conducted by IMU, i.e., IMU CET. Further, candidates have to appear for an Online Screening Test. Later on, a Sponsorship Test will be conducted based on which the respective companies select students. In the final rounds, candidates will be evaluated by the companies in the PI and Medical evaluation rounds.

To get admission in the DNS course at TMI, students need to fulfil a minimum eligibility and selection criteria as per the institute. Admission to DNS is accepted through an entrance exam which is conducted by IMU. Best college in maritime world with best placement rate in India and a huge infrastructure.

Placements: In my course, as it is DNS, the placement ratio is 100%. Students from companies like BW, Syne, Torm, D-Amico, and Home are studying here; these are the big giants in the shipping sector. And after this one-year diploma course, we will all be going to ship for our 18-month pre-sea training or, as we say, an internship. Almost all if the teachers are captains and sea pilots give their best. I will say Tolani is a pack of everything, as it is also India's number one maritime institute.

Infrastructure: In all classrooms of the college, free Wi-Fi is provided by the college itself with very good speed and a developed LRC (library) is here. For DNS, classrooms have AC too and all stationery except pens is provided by the college itself. While talking about hostels, the facilities are also up to the mark: very friendly wardens, a double shared room, and a fixed-time free wife. A proper schedule for everything at the hostel and college is provided. Mess food is also very good, with special treats on Tuesday and Saturday.

Faculty: Almost all teachers are former captains and shipping pilots so obviously they have a very good knowledge of shipping in practical as well as theoretical modes. They give there best for us. And some captains are very young so they can easily understand you. And the year coordinator is the best part of DNS. Semester exams are so easy if you study well; even a day is enough. And Tolani is producing the best cadets in the shipping world.

Other: My reason for choosing this course is the one-year theory study and 18 months of pre-sea training. And it is even the best part because you study only relevant topics here. I think there can be no better life than the one we live here in college. We have a very busy schedule but it makes life better. Talking about fests, annually, 4-5 fests are there with full DJs and all where you can enjoy a lot. For girl cadets, extra loans are also given.

Placements: Tolani maritime institute was effected due to the recession in the industry. Moreover, Tolani maritime institute is still offering 100% placements for B.Sc nautical Science and DNS cadets. For marine engineering cadets, the situation is not that good. For ETO course, the college has 100% placement record.

Infrastructure: The college has a very good infrastructure and the campus is very neat and clean. There is a lot of greenery in the campus. The campus’s ship PVD adds to the beauty of the campus. The hostel is well designed and well managed. It is cleaned well and regularly.

Faculty: The IMU curriculum is well designed and very well structured and it involves mostly the practical applications of the real life situations that we encounter on board. Also, the exams are very well-set and an average cadet can score high in those exams but the key to it is that you have to study regularly.

Placements: Students are already placed before the academy started as this is the normal procedure, and for other courses as well. Placements scenario is still high i.e., 99-100%. In the previous year, every cadet of each department is placed.

Infrastructure: In this college, students will get all the required facilities for their brilliant land training. LAN connection is available 24X7. Our college provides 3 messes, and all of them serve the best quality of food. Hostel 1 is old than hostels 2 and 3, but it does not compromise on the quality. Every room is fitted with Wi-Fi for a virtual experience. There are simulators for every little part that have to be used on the ship.

Faculty: The care for academics is top-notch. Our course curriculum is perfectly designed to suit the cadets' daily routine.

Other: The diversity on campus will give students the required exposure for this field, do not just be a civilian, come serve the country, and earn the uniform.

One of the best Maritime college in India.

Placements: One of the best colleges in terms of placement. Around 100 sponsored students were in our batch of DNS. Companies like scorpio, wilhelmsen, torm, home, ships, and tolani shipping, sponsored the cadets. The stipend varies from 500-750 $ per month. Upon completion of the course, the cadet will be going for cadetship as a deck cadet for 18 months and will be eligible to apply for a second mates license and coc. He will also be awarded B.Sc. applied nautical Science upon completion of the DLP program and exams.

Infrastructure: Top classroom with air-conditioned and good academic facilities. Wi-Fi enabled, regular cleaning and maintenance, LRC means learning resource center, my favorite space to study without any distraction. About the hostel mess, the quality of food is great when compared to other colleges. Weekly 4 days chicken for nonveg lovers. It has 24 hours open sickbay with a doctor and ambulance service. You are allowed to play any game in your playing time. There are no restrictions. Football, squash, basket, tennis, volleyball, swimming, and table tennis. Chess, badminton, and what not.

Faculty: Top-quality teachers. TMI is the highest paying college for faculty members. Experienced dignities from the field. Excellent teaching as per chip. The proper method of teaching and syllabus completion with revision. Sem exam is conducted by Indian Maritime University.

Other: DNS is a sponsored course. One year course and I feel it's better than B.Sc. ns. TMI has a lot of events and co-curricular activities. You will have a fair chance to participate in any of these.

Review of Tolani Maritime Institute- TMI.

Placements: I would rate 5 out of 5 for placements, because the course which I have done has pre-placements opportunity which means in our course all the students are sponsored. The top recruiting companies are Torm, Home, Scorpio, BSM, Wilhemsen, and many more. This is a one-year course and all students are sponsored after one year everyone will join the ship as a deck cadet.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure is good as the rooms are spacious and are equipped with all the necessary things. It has a study table. The classrooms are big and clean. It provides smart board and air conditioning in our classroom. The library has all the books available. As far as food is concerned the hotel mess offers different varieties of food and are of good quality. For sports and games, students have a basketball court, volleyball court, squash, table tennis, cricket ground, football ground, badminton court, and many more games facilities are there. It has a sick bay for students who are ill and need medical help.

Faculty: Faculty members are highly qualified and knowledgeable. Most of them are retired navy officers and are captains and chief engineers with lots of experience in sailing. Hence their knowledge is impeccable. The course curriculum is good and is of only one year hence students get more of practical knowledge than the theory. The semester exam is difficult as it is conducted by the international maritime university but with a little bit of focus students can pass easily.

Other: I opted for this course as it gives me pre-placements so I am assured that I will get the job when our course is done. The salary is good in this industry and also the college which I chose is best as far as merchant navy is concerned. The annual fest, fresher party cross country race, and many more events are held in this college. It has different clubs for extracurricular activities like adventure club, MMA, debate club, and many more.

It is a very good college for pursuing DNS in India.

Placements: 100% placements are available as it is a pre-sponsored course. Everyone is placed before starting the course. Many top-most shipping companies give sponsorship, such as Fleet Management Limited, Scorpio, Torm, Wilhelmsen etc. Many other companies also visited here as it is in the 2021-22 batch of DNS.

Infrastructure: All the facilities and infrastructure are excellent in our college. Food quality is the best in our mess. Medical and sports facilities are good. There is a canteen too, which provides good quality food. In short, we can say it is best to take admission in TMI as everything is quite good here.

Faculty: The teachers are very helpful, highly qualified and knowledgeable. Semester exams are decent as the teachers support us well. The pass percentage is around 90%. This course is really relevant for people aiming to join Merchant Navy. It definitely makes the students ready for this industry.
