According to the available data, National Institute of Design, Assam and NID Kurukshetra are both autonomous public design universities in India. NID is considered one of the premier institutes in design, founded in 1961, with extension campuses in Gandhinagar and Bengaluru. The other NIDs are located in the cities of Kurukshetra, Vijayawada, Jorhat, and Bhopal. NID Kurukshetra was established on November 15, 2016, as an autonomous institute under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India). Both institutes offer Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), Graduate Diploma Program in Design (GDPD), Master of Design (M.Des.), and doctoral programs (PhD).
