Candidates seeking admission to design courses at the NIDs need to know about the detailed fee structure for the B.Des and M.Des courses. The NID fee structure is made up of various components like tuition fees, insurance fees, and hostel charges. Here, we explain the fee structure in detail and also explain the contexts.
NID Fee Structure 2026: The National Institute of Design (NID) will release the fee structure for the academic session 2026-27 on its admission portal. The fee structure will be released for the B.Des and M.Des programs semester-wise and includes various components like tuition fees, insurance fees, alumni fees, and student activity fees. The fee details will not include the Mess fee. It will be notified at the start of the academic session.
Some fees, like the security deposit, are refundable, while others, like the tuition fees, are non-refundable. Admission to the NID institutes will be through the NID 2026 entrance exam. NID DAT 2026 (Prelims) exam was conducted on December 21, 2025. Candidates who get shortlisted have to next appear in the DAT Mains. The final result of NID DAT 2026 will be prepared by giving weightage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

NID 2026 Fee Structure - B.Des
The combined tuition fees for the B.Des that candidates have to pay in eight semesters in the academic session 2026- 2027 is 2,25,000 per semester. For semester 1, the total fees without hostel is 2,26,900 and for semester 2 is 2,25,500.
The various components of the NID fee structure for the B.Des and M.Des programme inlcudes components like tuition fees, insurance fees, student activity fund, film club fees, and alumni fees. The tuition fees have the highest contribution to the overall fees.

NID Admission Process 2026
Admission to the B.Des and M.Des programs at the NIDs will be through the NID DAT 2026 exam.
The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) has two stages.
- DAT Prelims
- DAT Mains
Candidates will be shortlisted for the DAT Mains based on their performance in DAT Prelims. The final merit list of NID DAT 2026 will be prepared giving weightage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.
The fee structure of NID, Bengaluru is expensive as compared to the other design Institutes. The fee ranges between 1,80,000- 2,00,000 for the 1st semester in undergraduate course. The approximate fees for the master's degree is around 11 lakh. You can visit the official website of NID for the latest fee structure. Students have to pay the security fees of 10,000 at the starting of the course. Some fees like the security fees is refundable but the tuition fees is non refundable. There are other charges as well like hostel, mess, transportation. The fees is but high but it is worth it.
The application fee of NID DAT 2026 for the B. Des for General, General-EWS, OBC-NCL candidates is INR 3,000. SC, ST, PwD candidates only ned to pay INR 1,500. However note that the application fees for overseas candidates seeking admission to supernumerary seats is INR 5000. In case of the M.Des programme, the application fees for General, General-EWS, OBC-NCL candidates applying for one discipline is INR 3,000. If two disciplines are chosen, the application fee is INR 6000. Meanwhile, SC, ST, PwD candidate need to pay INR 1,500 for one discipline, and INR 3000 for two disciplines.

The NID Bangalore MDes fee structure includes various components, such as tuition fees, hostel charges, insurance charges, etc. The tuition fee is the most major component in the fee structure. The MDes tuition fee at NID Bangalore is INR 11.43 lakh for the entire course duration. It is payable over five semestral instalments. Further, a refundable student deposit of INR 10,000 must be paid at the beginning of the first semester.
