While very few candidates appear for both JEE Main and NEET, CUET UG, which was launched last year after being renamed from the erstwhile CUCET is a common choice for all students. Since CUET is the gateway to approximately 90 Central, State, Deemed and Private Universities. While the scope for JEE Main and NEET is for engineering and medical admission, CUET has a much broader course list that caters to students across Science, Commerce and Humanities streams.

Q:   Is JEE Main syllabus similar to the syllabus of and CBSE/other state boards of class 11 and 12?

A:
The syllabus of JEE Main is similar to class 11 and 12. However, some topics may be extra in JEE Main. Syllabus which are not covered in class 11 or 12. Students preparing for the JEE Main exam need to study as per the official syllabus which is released by the NTA. Also, students can follow NCERT textbooks as the base for studying the syllabus of JEE Main.

Q:   I live in Noida. Can I choose Jaipur as the NEET exam city preference?

A:

The choice of exam city is limited to your permanent and present address. If you have mentioned Jaipur, Rajasthan as your permanent or present address, then you can choose Jaipur as an exam city, otherwise it would not appear in the drop-down menu. Similarly, once you enter your present address as Noida, the exam city options for the NEET 2024 exam centre will be limited to Delhi and Uttar Pradesh only. If your present address in Noida but permanent address is in Jaipur, then you may have the option to select Jaipur as the exam city. Hence, candidates must be careful while filling the application form and entering their address.

How to Balance Preparation Between CUET, JEE and NEET

Students who are preparing for all three exams must endeavour to strike a balance between the preparation of CUET, JEE and NEET. Here we bring some of the tops which will help candidates in achieving success in all three exams.

Prepare a Timetable: Discipline is the key to success. No matter how many exams you appear for, if you maintain a disciplined approach, then you can effectively balance the preparation. For this, the first step is to prepare a timetable and abide by it. Make a timetable to segregate the duration of preparation for CUET, NEET and JEE. At this stage, JEE Main is scheduled before the other two exams. Moreover, the difficulty level of JEE Main is the highest among the other two exams. Hence, prioritise JEE Main while preparing the timetable. At the same time, ensure that you have adequate time to prepare for the other two exams. Include subject-specific preparation or revision along with practice.

Common Preparation for Subjects: As stated above, there are certain common subjects in all three exams including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. The syllabus for these subjects is also the same. Hence, you need to focus on the common subjects that will not only clear your concepts, it will also ease the stress of completing the syllabus of three highly competitive national-level entrance exams.

Get the Right Books and Study Materials: The list of top books for each exam has been provided in this article. Create your own list of books that you will wish to refer to. Discuss with your teacher and peers to know which books would suit you the best. It would not be much helpful to just hoard books. While NCERT or your school textbooks are a must to be studied, apart from that, you can study from a few other reputed books and your coaching institute study materials. While choosing books, keep in mind certain factors like content quality, price, illustrations and examples, practice materials and solutions, to name a few.

Solve Previous Year Question Papers: Solving previous years’ questions is another effective method of preparation. Solve at least the last five-year question papers for JEE and NEET and last year’s question papers of CUET for clarity on the exam pattern, structure and question types. You must ensure that you solve the papers in a proctored manner, i.e. attempting the question papers at the exact time of the exam without a break. This will help your body and mind to get adjusted for the day of the exam. After solving each question paper, cross-check your answers with the answer keys and refer to the solutions provided by experts. After solving previous years’ question papers and mock tests, get them analysed by your teachers or mentors.

Decide the Approach of Each Exam: The exam pattern and structure of each of the exams is different. Hence, you must decide on the exam-taking strategy and approach for each exam. The exam-taking strategy would depend on factors such as strengths and weaknesses, and deciding the time for each question and section, to name a few. Moreover, those who would be appearing for the Architecture or Planning papers, or CUET, would have to prepare and practice for the additional subjects as well.

Improve Time Management Skills: Time management is very critical for these exams. Hence, you must have proper time management in place so as to complete the test on time. Right after the beginning of the exam, go through all the questions and select the questions to attempt. Do not spend more than three to four minutes per question. In case a question takes more time than expected, leave it and move on to the next question. Also, keep some buffer time to revise the responses to ensure that there is no silly mistake.
