Karnataka CET 2014: Exam Analysis

Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) 2014 was held on May 1 and 2 at 314 centres in the state. The exam was taken by approximately 1,40,461 aspirants from all across the country. The Biology exam was held from 10.30 am to 11.50 am,  and the Mathematics paper was conducted from 2.30 pm to 3.50 pm on May 1.

On May 2, 2014, the Physics and Chemistry examinations were conducted from 10.30 am to 11.50 am and from 2.30 pm to 3.50 pm, respectively.

The exam was conducted on May 3, 2014 in the Kannada language from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm. It was held for 1,660 Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadiga candidates at three centres in Bangalore.

Total of around 1,02,757 (73.1%) aspirants took the Biology test. On the other hand, 1,35,871 (96.7%) took the Mathematics test.

Mathematics

May 1 - 10.30 am to 11.50 am

Biology

May 1 - 2.30 pm to 3.50 pm

Chemistry

May 2  - 10.30 am to 11.50 am

Physics

May 2 - 2.30 pm to 3.50 pm

 

Day 1: Mathematics and Biology

The Mathematics paper was considered to be tough this year, while the Biology paper was said to be easy. Apparently, the paper was easier than that of last year and consisted of questions that were a combination of those which could be solved by meritorious candidates only. However, there were some questions that could be solved by average students as well.

The Biology paper had 15 questions from I Pre University Course (PUC) syllabus and the Mathematics paper had 17 questions from I PUC syllabus.

Day 2: Chemistry and Physics

On Day 2, as many as 1.39 aspirants took the chemistry paper. According to experts, the paper was tougher than the last year with some questions being unusual. Around 15 questions were easy, while 30 were moderate and 15 were difficult. Some of the experts also claim that some of the questions were incorrect and had three correct questions.

The Physics paper was comparatively easy. It encompassed 20 questions from the I Pre University Course (PUC) syllabus. However, according to reports, it lacked questions that required more analytical and deep thinking.

Around 99.1% of the students who registered for the exam took the Physics test and 99.09% appeared for the Chemistry test.
