Universities are coming together to make higher education accessible to everyone.

With the aim of making innovations in the education system, Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Jamia Millia Islamia and IIT-Delhi are planning to create a meta-university. It will permit students to pursue courses available across these institutions. The purpose of this collaboration is to make higher education handy for everyone.

DU vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh has explained the idea while delivering a lecture on 'Education in 21st Century' at Vasant Valley School. He added that some students may not want to complete semesters in quick succession. As a consequence of this idea, students can sit at any university and pursue the options they desire for. This will be the advantage of the Meta-University.

Furthermore, he added that India needs to innovate and improve the ways of imparting and seeking education. It is the age of global change, and a hybrid model of education is the fundamental need of the hour. He also said that real life situations enhance the learning and knowledge is everywhere. The need of the hour is to reconfigure the institutions and make learning a two-way process.

Great idea to promote multi-disciplinary learning at the higher education level, Jamia Millia Islamia is also the part of this pilot project. The Internet and the Web will provide the communication infrastructure, and the open-access movement and its derivatives will provide much of the knowledge.
