Bid Adieu to Re-evaluation process in 2013: DU
The all new semester system has yet again become a cause of concern for teachers and students of Delhi University. It has been decided to scrap the re-evaluation and rechecking of answer sheets in the next academic session, when the new semester system will be introduced.
DU has also hiked the re-valuation and re-checking fees and this process may altogether be scrapped as soon as the semester system will be introduced across all three years. Re-checking refers to re-totaling of marks whereas re-evaluation refers to checking the answer sheet all over again.
Law faculty is the only faculty which offers the option of re-checking the answer sheets. Previously, the students were charged Rs. 300 and now it has been increased to Rs. 750. The system of re-evaluation is vital from the students' point of view as sometimes teachers who correct papers don't teach those subjects or there are ad-hoc teachers who correct papers, said Karen Gabriel, professor of English, St. Stephens' College.
It would be extremely unfair to scrap both re-evaluation and rechecking as it will be harmful for students. Dean of examinations, RC Sharma stated that they need a full proof system in which the need for re-valuation will not arise at all. He also said that they are trying to make semester system more efficient, and certain administrative changes are still under construction and they will be brought into effect as soon as possible.
