CBSE-i to be available to 50 schools in India
CBSE International Programme (CBSE-i) an education pattern based on Geneva based International Baccalaureate (IB). The IB certificate is fast becoming popular in the country and it helps the students to get into the top universities faster.
CBSE-i has been adopted by about 26 schools abroad and will soon be available at 50 schools in the country. This step will offer the students with an enquiry and skill based global curriculum. According Kapil Sibal, the HRD minister, this curriculum has been designed for those who wish to study abroad after class 12th and the choices for those willing to take up this course will increase. He said that the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has already given recognition to CBSE-i while CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi said the feedback from the schools which have adopted the curriculum is positive. Sibal also added that it is a less expensive quality oriented course in comparison to the international courses.
The existing CBSE mainly comprises three streams but CBSE-i provides the students with an array of options including performing arts, music, visual arts, drama and dance. Mathematics will be made available to the students in two levels- Core and Elective. It also includes programmes in Electives, life skills, research project etc. According to this curriculum, students from class 1 to 12 will be taught entirely through e-books. These students will have more foreign languages and the annual course registration fee for this programme is Rs.1.5 lakh. This course will be totally online based and the government plans to expand this in the near future. This course, according to CBSE, caters to the individual learning styles in terms of pedagogy and assessment. It aims at promoting critical and creative thinking skills, effective communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills and information and media skills.
