NEET has now been postponed for a year
The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for all postgraduate medical seats across India has been postponed for a year for lack of resources and expertise to conduct the exam. Now, instead of being held in January-February 2012, NEET will be held in 2013. The state governments have objected to NEET being conducted only in English and Hindi. MCI will release separate nation-wise as well as state-wise merit lists and the states can implement their own reservation matrix to safeguard the interest of their students.

Technical glitches in Sub-Inspector Entrance Exams irk students
Candidates who appeared for the Sub-Inspectors Entrance Examination conducted by Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) on September 25 have threatened to move court because of the technical glitches in the biometric machines installed at the examination centers and mistakes in the question papers. About 10 questions had wrong answer choices, and were later cancelled by the board.

CID arrests 9 students and 3 teachers in PGET Exam
CID has recently nabbed nine ‘beneficiary students' and three faculty members for their alleged role in the Post Graduate Medical Entrance Test (PGET) scam. All the nine students are from Bangalore while the faculty members are from Bellary. These nine students chose Bellary as their preferred centre and scored top ranks in the entrance exam. Earlier, Justice Hegre had ordered to nullify the results of the students and to keep them out of the PG seat selection process.

300 Tri-Valley Students to be sent home
It has been more than nine months since the US immigration authorities are investigating the Tri-Valley University (TVU) visa fraud case. More than 1,000 students are being considered for transfer to other universities. 435 student transfers have already been approved. Up to 300 Indian students are likely to be sent home. Students who are denied visas and will return to India will be allowed to apply for student visa or I-20 visa again and no restrictions will be applied on them.

Higher study costs hit enrolment growth of transnational education programmes in India
According to a study by the Parthenon Group (a consulting firm specializing in business strategy), there is a lack of demand for transnational education programmes in India among students as they incur higher costs than their local Indian counterparts. Besides, they do not offer much value-addition in terms of salary drawn by their students in the first few years after completing the course. A UKIERI study on foreign education providers in India in 2008 suggested that about 140 Indian institutions and 156 foreign education providers are offering about 635 study programmes in collaboration.

Wharton to offer Accelerated Development Program for executives in India from next year
Wharton Business School has announced that it will now offer its Accelerated Development Program - a business certificate for executive students (college graduates with existing business experience) - in India from January 2012. The new program will cover topics such as international marketing and global strategic leadership. The students will have to take three courses to receive the certificate - two in India and one in Wharton's campus in Philadelphia.
