IGNOU announces admission for online programmes: Media Release
The Indira Gandhi National Open University's (IGNOU's) Chair for Sustainable Development (CSD) announces admission for its three online programmes, viz, Appreciation Programme on Sustainable Management of Ganga- A Scientific Approach (APSMG), Leadership Programme on Nutrition Security and Sustainable Development (LPNSSD) and Leadership Programme on Himalayan Ecosystems (LPHECO).
The last date for submission of application form is 15th October 2011.
The APSMG is for minimum one and half months and maximum for eight months. The eligibility for joining this course is a graduation degree in any subject. The post graduate students, researchers, scientists, engineers, medical doctors, stake holders, policy makers, administrators and other professionals with requisite educational qualifications will be given preference.
The objective of this online programme is to create awareness about the significance of the national River Ganga and its connectivity with our civilization and culture.
The Nutrition Security programme is intended to sensitize and guide policy and programme leaders to rely more on evidence based programming for achieving nutrition security and sustainable development. Its duration is minimum one month and maximum six months. It is open to candidates who are graduates or equivalent in any discipline from any recognized University. There is a special focus on candidates working in the health and nutrition sector, including policy makers and programme implementers, civil society and public health nutrition professionals.
The programme in Himalayan Ecosystems is of one month duration and consists of four blocks. The fourth block refers to Project work based on practical exercises and case studies/ field visits. In order to be eligible for the award of the certificate, a student has to complete the four blocks. The purpose is to provide an opportunity to the students to apply the knowledge they have acquired in course of study on scientific principles and technological methods underpinning the concept and pathways of Himalayan ecosystems and sustainable development. The students can take project work on any of the themes studied taking into account local field conditions. The students can also develop a research/ policy paper or prepare a plan of action based on the recommendations of Agenda 21 Plan of Action.

Registration forms for these courses are specially devised with the facility of uploading scanned certificates, other required documents and photograph. The registration will be confirmed only after verification of the certificates and payment of the required admission fee. Facility for online payment is available through the payment gateway (AXIS Bank) being offered by the University for online programmes.
Once registered, learners will have access to personalized learning space (My Page). This includes self instructional material, related audio/video, slides, self check exercises, etc. weaved in one platform.
Web cast based counselling integrated with text based chatting facility is used for counselling purposes. Templates are made available for synopsis submission, project uploading and evaluation. Viva voce will be conducted through web based video conferencing tool.
