Quality of Education is still poor in India: World Bank
Undoubtedly, India is a hub of world class learning institutions like IIMs, IITs but the quality of education in the country remains poor. India is enrolling more and more students in schools and colleges, but the quality of education is deteriorating by every passing day, said a World Bank official.
The number of enrollments and quality of education are the main constraints which enhance the education level of an economy. World Bank Director Education Elizabeth M King said that in order to bring more children to colleges and schools, you should also raise the quality of education at par with international standards.
She said that World Bank expects India to have ambitions to compete with the best in the world. Though India has world class institutions like IIMs, IITs but they are not in the league of MIT and Leeds in terms of quality of education. She said that in India inequality of resources is a major cause of concern and it hinders the formulation of effective education policy in the country.
However, she has also praised HRD Minister Kapil Sibal and said that he has a good vision for future of India and is open to technological innovations. She has also praised the education policy for girl child in Haryana, and said that recently, some similar polices have also been implemented in Brazil.
She added that India has always been experimental in terms of education; but such experiments should yield some fruits now.
