Executive MBA: Top colleges offering part-time and online programmes
Over the last three years, a fine line of distinction has been rising between Executive MBA (EMBA) and one-year MBAs.
One-year MBA, meant for experienced working executives, is a regular or full-time one year course. It is an intensive programme, packed at a half opportunity cost when compared to two-year full-time MBAs. Colleges also have proper placement assistance at the end of the course. Executive MBAs, also meant for working executives, is a more comprehensive course. It could be a part-time or online or satellite or distance course. Meant for candidates with busy schedule, EMBAs are specially tailored courses, spread over a few months or years.

For part-time executive MBA courses, classes are held over the weekend or in the evening hours in the college campus. They have a certain attendance policy and have certain rigours of a full-time course (such as assignments and projects). Part-time courses may or may not provide placement assistance.
While for courses offered in virtual or online mode, candidates have to attend online sessions. Many online EMBA courses are being hosted by NIIT Imperia, Hughes Education and other virtual platforms. However, online and distance EMBA courses do not have any placement assistance. They are often accompanied with a small campus tour towards the end of the programme.
All EMBA courses offered in part-time, online or distance mode has a minimum work-experience requirement in the eligibility criteria. This can range anywhere between two to seven years.
No specific management entrance test score such as CAT, XAT, CMAT or GMAT is required for admission. But in part-time EMBA courses, seats are offered after some form of candidate scrutiny.
Who should pursue online & distance courses?
Please note, many colleges use the term executive MBA while naming their one-year full time regular MBA course.
