Due to COVID-19, the education system of the country has changed to some extent. The students are facing various problems related to their study as the colleges are closed. So, now it’s time to change our study strategy as well. As everything is online now, so we can prove that it is time to enhance our skills including MS Word and PowerPoint. We can enroll for an online course without paying any money. Many online courses provide free access to enroll in courses so we can utilise this time and polish our skills.

Q: What are the major differences in the experience of attending an online class and a brick and mortar class? What do you find more enjoyable?

A: In an offline class, when we go to college and attend the classes our mind is pre-programmed that we have to go inside the classroom, start studying the topic as taught by the teacher. The atmosphere of classroom study is interesting for the student, and also, during the class, if we have any doubt we can ask and clarify the same.

On the other hand, in online classes, we face problems like connectivity issues as many students who live in a place where internet connectivity is not good so they cannot attend the classes. Also, in online classes the scope to clarify doubts and interact with each other is limited. So, in my opinion, the brick and mortar classes are more interesting because we are surrounded by our faculty and friends due to which we feel more comfortable.

Q: Would you prefer to opt for online classes if given a choice? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each- online and offline?

A: As stated above, I prefer offline classes because since childhood we all have been studying through offline classes only, so, changing the mode of study now is a bit challenging.

Advantages of offline classes

  • The biggest advantage is that everyone can attend the class as there is no issue of internet and connectivity in offline classes.
  • In offline classes, we like the environment of study as we are surrounded by our friends and faculty.
  • We can clarify our doubts easily as there is no limit to the questions asked.
  • The teachers can focus on every student.

Disadvantages of offline classes

  • Location is a disadvantage as we have to reach the college on time to attend the lecture
  • Some of the students feel shy or fear to ask a question.
  • We have to live in discipline and wear the proper uniform.

Advantage of online classes

  • The biggest advantage is that we do not have to travel and go anywhere to attend the class.
  • In case of any doubt, we can play the recorded lecture again.
  • We can save time and money.

Disadvantages of online classes

  • The biggest disadvantage is the internet connectivity issue.
  • We cannot clear all our doubts.
  • We cannot understand the practical questions easily.
