TET is Teacher Eligibility Test. It plays a crucial role in the selection or recruitment process for the school teachers in India. Basically, it is qualifying exam for those candidates who want to work in the government schools from Class 1 to Class 8 and also private schools across the country. Q:   What are CTET passing marks for the SC and ST categories?
A:
The CTET passing marks for the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) categories is 55 per cent. The SSC & ST categories candidates need to obtain 82 out of the total 150 marks to qualify the exam and obtain the eligibility Certificate.
Q:   What are the qualifying marks for CTET exam?
A:

The CTET qualifying marks are different for different categories. General category candidates need to obtain a minimum of 60 per cent or above marks in the CTET 2025 exam in order to be considered as a CTET pass. The CTET passing marks for OBC/SC/ST category candidates are 55 per cent. Candidates scoring more than or equal to the qualifying marks are considered CTET qualified. Only those candidates are awarded the CTET Certificate those who secure the minimum qualifying marks. However, a higher CTET score is advantageous in the further teacher recruitment process.

As per the Right to Education (RTE) Act, a candidate should pass the TET exam, which the appropriate Government conducts according to the guidelines framed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The Teacher Eligibility Test is an eligibility exam conducted in India by the central as well as state governments. The TET 2026 exam determines the eligibility of candidates to become teachers. Passing the TET exam is mandatory for teaching in government and in some private schools. 

Supreme Court Rules TET Qualification Compulsory for Teachers: The apex court has ruled that aspiring teachers and in-service teachers must clear the TET exam. Compulsory in nature: TET exam is compulsory or mandatory in almost all states as it defines the eligibility of candidates to become teachers in India. 

Central and State TET exams: CTET is the central TET exam conducted by CBSE and is accepted by almost all the states/ UTs. On the other hand, some states organise their own TET exams, such as UPTET, Bihar STET, Maha TET, REET, KARTET, TS TET, AP TET, etc. 

Required for: The TET exam is generally required for classes 1 to 8.

CTET 2026: The CBSE released the CTET notification and application form for the February session on November 27. The last date to apply for the CTET exam was December 18. The application correction dates were December 23 to December 26. The authority also opened the one-time facility for completing the application process from December 27 to December 30. The CTET 21st Edition exam will be conducted on February 8, 2026

MAHA TET 2026: The Maharashtra State Examination Council, Pune conducted the MAHA TET exam on November 23, 2025 in two shifts. The MAHA TET answer key was announced on December 19 on the official website at mahatet.in. The correction window was opened from December 19 to December 27, 2025. The MAHA TET application dates were September 15 to October 3. The notification was released on September 11, 2025.

TS TET 2026: The Department of School Education, Telangana released the admit card on December 27. The TSTET exam dates are January 3 to January 31, 2026. The application was available from November 15 to 29, 2025. The TS TET Notification was released on November 14, 2025.

AP TET 2026: The Department of School Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh (AP DSC) releases AP TET exam notification 2026 online. The authority released the APTET Answer Key 2025 on January 2, 2026 for all the subjects.

UPTET 2026: The Uttar Pradesh TET exam will be conducted from January 29 and 30, 2026.

CTET 2026

The CBSE CTET 2026 notification was released for the conduct of the 21st edition of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). The CTET application form 2025 was available along with the notification. Candidates could apply until December 18, 2025. The CTET exam will be held on February 8, 2026. The admit card is expected soon.

MAHA TET 2026

The authority released the MAHA TET Answer Key December 19, 2025. The result is expected soon. The MAHA TET result 2025 will be announced based on the MAHA TET final answer key. MAHA TET exam was held on November 23, 2025. The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) released the MAHATET notification 2025 on September 13 2025, at mahatet.in. The MAHA TET application form 2025 was available from September 15 to October 9. 

TNTET 2026

The Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) will soon release the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) 2026 notification on the official portal. The TNTET exam was held on November 15 and 16, 2025. The authority released the TNTET answer key. The TNTET 2025 result is expected soon.

TS TET 2026

The TS TET exam is ongoing from January 3 to 31, 2026. The TG TET exam is organised online in the CBT mode. The TS TET or TG TET application form 2025 was available from November 15 to 29, 2025. The TS TET results 2025 will be released after the exam. 

AP TET 2026

The AP TET notification 2026 will be released as a PDF download file at aptet.apcfss.in. The AP TET application form will also be available after the release of the notification. The AP TET exam 2025 was conducted on December 10. 

UPTET 2026

UPTET Notification 2025 will be released soon on the official website. UPTET exam is scheduled to be held on January 29 and 30, 2026. The UPTET exam will be conducted for two papers

REET 2026

The authority is scheduled to conduct the REET Mains exam from January 17 to January 21, 2026. The Mains form was released from November 7 to December 6, 2025. The REET mains notification 2025 was released for level 1 and level 2 exam.

Assam TET 2026

The Assam TET notification 2026 was announced on January 6. The application process was started on January 7. The registration window will remain open until February 7, 2026. Candidates can apply online at sebaonline.org or ssa.assam.gov.in. Interested candidates can apply by visiting the official website as per the deadlines. Candidates should read eligibility once before applying for the Assam TET exam.

TET 2026 Eligibility criteria

To appear for the TET 2026, candidates should fulfil the prescribed eligibility criteria comprising the educational qualification and age limit. The TET eligibility criteria differ from state to state. However, the basic criteria remain the same that candidates need to fulfil to appear for a TET. Candidates can check below:

  • Candidates should be class 12 passed or a graduate from a recognized university with a minimum of 45 per cent marks

  • There is no upper age limit for CTET and various TET exams

TET Exam Pattern 2026

How to prepare for TET 2026?

To prepare for the TET exam, candidates should be familiar with the pattern of an exam and Syllabus of the TET exam prescribed officially by the exam conducting body. The teacher eligibility tests typically consist of two papers 1 and 2. Paper 1 is conducted for candidates who plan to teach classes 1 to 5. Paper 2 is conducted for candidates who plan to teach classes 6 to 8. The TET question paper varies as per the subject chosen by a candidate. TET Result 2026: Applicability

Every year, lakhs of aspirants from different parts of the country appear for TETs to obtain eligibility for teacher recruitment to the following posts:

  • Primary Teachers (PRTs): For Classes 1-5
  • Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs): For Classes 6-8
  • Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs): For Classes 9-12

Candidates who seek to become primary teachers for classes 1 to 5 appear for Paper 1 under the respective TET exam and candidates who want to teach classes 6 to 8 appear for Paper 2 exam. However, the TET exam and teaching post level may differ as per rules prescribed by respective state governments. 

It may be noted here that merely qualifying for the CTET or TET exam does not guarantee the appointment of candidates as teachers in schools. However, once qualified, candidates only get eligible to apply for teaching jobs. Candidates need to undergo the entire recruitment process of the school in which they want to get recruited.

TET Result: Validity of Certificate

Candidates who qualify for the exam are awarded the TET eligibility certificate. The TET certificate is now valid for life. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) extended the TET certificate validity to a lifetime in June 2021.
