Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIM-L) is known for going out-of-the-way to make management education accessible to working professionals. The Noida campus was created as an answer to the managerial needs of the working community. Very soon, the campus shall have state-of-the-art convention centre with a seating capacity of as many as 1400 people.
“We are planning to launch the centre early next year sometime. It will give the students of the Noida campus the platform to conduct events in the campus itself,” says Dr Devi Singh, director IIM Lucknow.
However, that is not the only thing the institute is looking forward to. In a first-of-its-kind for IIMs, IIM Lucknow has taken the lead in launching the first-ever fellow programme in management for working executives. The doctoral programme will let candidates continue their full-time job along with pursuing research. The programmes will be conducted at IIM Lucknow’s Noida campus.
“The programme is aimed at candidates who are in the mid of their careers and are contemplating to either get into academics or consulting,” says Prof Archana Shukla, dean of IIM Lucknow’s Noida campus. “The age limit has been set for the programme at 55, which is quite unusual. But, Prof Shukla says, “We want to attract the best students to the fellow programme. Anyways, the fellow programme is very selective. We exercise utmost caution when we admit fellow students, their research proposals are studied well. Therefore, it is good to invite a larger pool to apply to the programme.”
To commence in June 2013, the fellow programme will be the first by any IIM to make it possible for working executives to undertake research while working. “The modules will be designed for study on weekends for duration of eight hours a day. It will be a four-year long programme. Some of the areas of specialisation would be: Decision Sciences (Operations research/ Business Statistics), Business Environment (Economics), Finance and Accounting, Human Resource Management, Information Technology and Systems, Marketing Management, Operations Management, Strategic Management and General Management.”
