Mystory@HK Manji: How I chose my course and career path

After completing my school I decided to take Science stream as I had a desire to study Medicine or Engineering.

I have no regret for choosing my career. It is my utmost feeling that circumstances sometimes compel a person to make mistakes. I believe sincerity and devotion along with a bit of luck is needed to achieve destiny of an individual who himself is the architect of his own destiny. There are some scientific methods available now-a-days for career selection, but I believe it is the individual who has to apply his/her mind objectively.

My career path

I started my career in a British MNC in Kolkata in the production and operations management field and later worked in a navratna PSU in Hyderabad. I spent around 20 years in the same discipline and then switched to heavy engineering sector in the offshore project of another PSU. I worked as an Officiating-Site-in-Charge of Haldia, West Bengal. Further, I worked as a Unit Head of manufacturing/ exporting unit in Chennai and as Project/ Construction Manager in a reputed construction company in Delhi/ Jamnagar, Gujarat.

I published papers in renowned technical journals and presented papers in seminars. I helped MTech, MBA, and PG Diploma students with approved project guides of JNTU, IGNOU, APPC, IIIE, and Bangalore University. I was engaged as a visiting professor for Management stream in a reputed Management college in Kolkata as well as a paper setter and examiner for UG/PG examinations at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (previously known as WBUT). I was also associated with an international college as HoD in Mumbai and with reputed degree colleges as guest faculty - Management in Bangalore.

I authored two books, Lectures on Organization Behaviour-Text & Cases, and Production and Operations Management-Text and Cases and got them published from Bangalore and Delhi, respectively. Other book by title Managing People in Organization is ready for publication.

I presented a paper on OB in the International Conference on Management and Behavioral Science held in April 2011 at Jodhpur and also occupied the session chair. I also presented a paper on OB in the 14th Annual International Conference of the American Society of Business and Behavioral Sciences held in Paris, France, on June 24-26, 2011.

I was also a member of the editorial board for a few international journals.
