Mystory@Pooja Nair: How I chose my course and college
I studied PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology) in class XI-XII. Before opting for this stream I explored extensively about it as I wanted to become a researcher. Though later, when I was doing my under graduation, I realised that it was not my cup of tea.
After I finished my graduation, I discovered that I was good at interacting with people and was able to easily get along with people who were known to me. Initially, I faced trouble in talking to complete strangers, but once I used to get comfortable with them, my interaction skills would engage them with me. Trying to make the best use this quality, I conducted some research and observed that MBA in HR would be the best course for me. I wasted no time and while browsing the net, I found out that I can not only study, but also work at the same time in a college named Gems B School. Without a second thought I grabbed this opportunity with the hope of achieving great heights in my dream career. Meanwhile, I had developed a passion for becoming an entrepreneur, and I was sure that I could achieve what I wanted by enrolling in this course. This was the whole purpose of choosing my current college.
Before I chose my current college, I tried my hand at the JAVA institute, but I could not get through the interview. I also tried attempted GATEand CDS, but could not clear either. My failures taught me a lot, and also helped me recognise the field in which I am good at.
“What can I do” and “What I want to do” are two different things. There can be chances that you overlook some of your strengths and might not know that you can do certain things that you never knew you could do. So it’s better to assess ourselves in the right manner before starting a new endeavor. This college also helped me in assessing myself through a test, and I could know where exactly I fit in. There was an entrance test for getting enrolled into this college, which I could clear without much difficulty.
What I gained from my college years
I spend most my time in the college as I study and work in the college itself. College is fun and at the same time there is a lot of learning. I meet my faculties both at the time of classes and during work which makes interaction with them more frequent and helps me gain knowledge from them easily.
All the classes are pretty interesting and the faculties not only share bookish knowledge but also focus on practical knowledge by sharing their experiences in their respective companies. The classes are far away from the usual boring lectures and are more of interactive sessions. Here, the teachers listen to what the students have to say. One of the things that I like about the faculty is that they always say, “No answers are wrong answers”. By saying this, they not only boost the confidence of the students, but also motivate them to open up in front of others and share their ideas. Here I have seen numerous ideas coming together to form a single great idea.
As the classes are held for only two days in a week, the only extracurricular activity that we get engaged in is group discussion. The GDs are great fun and involve a lot of learning. Even the quietest student of the class is encouraged to get involved in the discussion. Every student feels at ease as the faculty is very supportive and helps us improve at every step. If given a chance, I would like to introduce some physical activities as well, which would help in some team building. It would also make our body and mind healthier which is important to grow in all ways.
I was a shy and an unfriendly person who would hesitate in conversing with people or would avoid meeting people. But when I started this course, I slowly became a better a person, and started connecting more with people. This has helped me in gaining more confidence, and now I am not shy or nervous anymore.
About the Author:
My name is Pooja Nair. I believe in keeping cool and enjoying life by being content with what I have and at the same time I am ready to learn new things in life to not only grow, but also to help others grow. Growth can be in terms of career, knowledge, money or even beauty and aesthetics.
No matter how old you are, where you’re from or what you do for a living, we all share something in common—a desire to be successful. Each person’s definition of success is different, however, as some may define success as being a loving and faithful spouse or a caring and responsible parent, while most people would equate success with wealth, fame, and power. But my definition of success would be to be able to help others. It is easy to defeat others but very hard to win people.
