GATE 2027 Exam is expected to be conducted in the first two weeks of February 2027 (Feb 6, 7, 13, and 14). IIT Madras will host Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering this year. The official website and GATE 2027 notification are most likely to be released in August 2026.

No, the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering examination takes place once a year. Every year, different IITs and IISc conduct exam on rotational basis. GATE is conducted online for three hours for 30 branch papers. 

Q:   Which IIT is conducting the GATE 2026 exam?
A: 

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati conducted GATE 2026 exam. The exam dates along with branch-wise exam dates was released on official website - gate2026.iitg.ac.in. The entrance test was held in two shifts -

  • Forenoon - 9:30 am to 12:30 pm

The application window is available till October 7 without late fees (revised), till October 13 (with late fee) and the exam will be conducted on February 7, 8, 14, and 15.

This year, IIT Guwahati is conducting GATE 2026, and two things have been modified - 

  • The GATE fees have been revised for all categories
  • A new sectional paper has been introduced, called Energy Science (under Engineering Sciences).

  • Candidates who have completed their BTech or any undergraduate degree can apply

  • Candidates who are currently studying in 3rd year or final year can also register for GATE exam 2027

  • Professional degree holders such as CA, CS, CMA, or Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of India

  • There is no attempt or age limit to apply for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering

How to fill GATE 2027 Application Form?

Candidates who wish to appear for GATE exam this year must note that the registrations is done online through GOAPS portal. Check the detailed process on how to fill application form below:

  • Go to official website of GATE 2027

  • Click on GOAPS portal link and select “New Candidate Registration”

  • Register by providing name, date of birth, mobile number, etc. 

  • Once registration is completed, GATE enrolment ID and password will be sent to email ID

  • Log in and fill personal and educational qualification details

  • Upload documents as per specifications

  • Pay GATE registration fee and submit form

IIT Madras will declare GATE 2027 results online on its official website. The GATE 2027 result date is March 2027, tentatively. The result will be available in the form of GATE scorecard. Q:   What are the GATE exam shift timings?

There are two shift timings for the GATE exam. Candidates can find the details of the shift timing on the official website. The GATE shift timings are as follows -

  • Forenoon  - 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
  • Afternoon - 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm

Candidates can also find the exam timing details mentioned in the GATE admit card. Candidates are advised to appear for the GATE 2026 exam on the date prescribed in the hall ticket. 

Q:   What is GATE enrollment ID?
A: 

The GATE enrollment ID is generated after registration. The enrollment ID is different for each applicant. It is used for accessing GATE related activities like form filling, hall ticket download, result and scorecard download, etc.

Q:   Is GATE enrollment ID and registration number the same?
A: 

GATE enrollment ID is created at time of registration. It is a login credential. GATE registration is roll number given to students. The registration number is printed on hall ticket.

Q:   What documents are required while filling the GATE 2027 application form?

Q:   Can I carry a soft copy of GATE admit card to the examination centre?

No, GATE admit card in soft copy format will not be accepted at exam centre. Candidates appearing for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering must carry their hall ticket along with a valid ID proof and pen/pencil. The admit card must be printed on a A4 size paper with details visible clearly.

Q:   Can I upload my caste certificate in the GATE 2027 registration form?

Candidates have to upload only photo and signature in GATE registration form.

Q:   Who is the GATE 2026 topper of CSE branch?
A: 

The GATE 2026 topper will be released after the declaration of result. The authorities will publish the topper's list (AIR 1 ) of all 30 subjects.
