As per the curriculum followed in India, post appearing in class 10 board exam, a student needs to study in class 11 and class 12 to appear in Higher Secondary council exam. Different boards in India call this class 12 exam by different names but the idea is common for all boards across India. Plus2 (the class 12 council exam) exam is a gateway to the colleges for Bachelor degree. Post completion of plus 2 council exam, the students starts appearing for various competitive entrance exam to qualify in Engineering/ Medical/ General stream (BSc, BA, BCom, BBA, etc.). So these 2 years (class 11 and class 12) are very much important for any student in India.

I had Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology during my plus2 council exam. In India, according to the council’s curriculum, studying English and a second language is a mandatory. So these 6 subjects were my armours to crack the Higher Secondary/plus 2 exams. Students getting very high marks are eligible to study Science. This is true during the admission process conducted in class 11 and also in the college.

In my college, I took up BSc in Calcutta University. BSc. is an Undergraduate academic degree awarded in multiple subjects of Science. My major area of study was Physics along with Chemistry and Mathematics. Here’s an honest confession- I never wanted to study Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics. I wanted to study English. But, I had to take up BSc. as my father wanted me to do so. It may sound to be funny now a days, but I was from a very orthodox family and it was a mandatory for me to obey his orders. But today, I can’t deny the fact, that specialising in Information Technology was easier for me as I took up Science during my Bachelor. During my Masters, I did dual specialization (Information Technology and Production & Operations Management) from Amity University, Noida.

Apart from the Post-graduation degree, I have undergone some certification related to my specialization e.g. ITIL, 6 Sigma Green and Black Belt, Advanced Cloud Security Auditing for CSA STAR Certification, ISO 27001 IRCA Certified Lead Auditor, IRCA Certified ISO/IEC 20000:2005 Lead Auditor, Certified Internal Auditor (ISO 9001:2000) and Certified Novell Engineer.

I always suggest students to do what they love to study the most. Excel comes out of passion.

Today, when I am invited to a college/University to provide a lecture session to the students, I always suggest them to do what they love to study the most. Excel comes out of passion. If a student loves to study History, he/she must study this subject, and love it while studying and I am sure that he/she will excel in this area. No one is unemployable. The only thing which is required is to love the subject and study, and rest will come automatically.

I did my specialisation in Information Technology 25 years back when desktops did not have a hard disk. To start up, a floppy was used. At that time, we had not heard of ‘Internet’ at least in India. After completing my studies, it was not a tough situation for me to get a job. So from that point of view, I would say that I was lucky. I did my Masters while I was working. I also learned a foreign language which undeniably helped me have an upper edge in my professional field.

When I address students in a college or University, I always suggest them that they should concentrate on their studies and their academic exam marks should be on the upper side. This definitely helps a lot.

When people hunt for a job there must always remember that knowledge is always secondary as knowledge can be transferred and the new joinee can always learn. What is always seen is that the candidate should be good in terms of speaking, should not have attitude problem and should be open to learning. Every student needs to develop this practice if willing excel in their life.
