Don’t speak if you don’t know genuine points regarding the topic, as you may fumble and it may appear that you are only interrupting in between just for the sake of speaking says Sachin Kumar Singh.

As far as GD is concerned there are few steps which you should keep in mind forever when you appear for GD. There can be a wide range of topics, particularly it can be from politics, any government initiative, general topics or it may be an abstract one, etc. I would suggest that if you get to know that you are about to participate in GD, or the placement session has started you should have a glance on the general trends, and the topics which are in focus as that will help you.

First thing you should always take care of is that if you are aware of the topic and have some hint on it, you should definitely go for initiation. As you get some bonus points when you either initiate or conclude a GD.

Don’t speak if you don’t know genuine points regarding the topic, as you may fumble and it may appear that you are only interrupting in between just for the sake of speaking. Also, you get some bonus points when you quote exact data and facts relating to the topic.

And as soon as the person announces the topic of the GD, discuss with your group members and only say yes, when you have the idea about the same else you can request them to change the topic, as it happens in some cases. Don’t start shouting or alleging someone in your group by pointing them as it will give a bad impression about you and you may end up not getting selected.

You should also make sure that each and every member in the group gets a chance to speak as that is a group task and not an individual one. That will emphasise your teamwork and will show that you have the ability to lead a team.

It should not be like that only two or three members are speaking and the rest of them are just nodding. In case if you don’t know anything, keep listening to any of the speakers and when he finishes, you may put some questions or ask him to explain it clearly, that will showcase your listening skills which are also a good skill.

You should not speak as if you are there for a debate or declamation, if possible put your things into point. And for concreting your chances, speak at least 2 or 3 times in between the complete session. Use some phrases or quotations, only if you know the meaning and explaining that is also a plus point.

The other thing is that when you speak you should not constantly be staring at the same person or wall, you should focus on complete group members and try to have eye contact with them.

I think if you follow the above steps, you will definitely make it.
