Students’ Speak: These 5 tips helped bag summer internship at a FMCG company
Internships not only enhance your knowledge but also helps in the final placement process as you can pitch your learning. Hence, internships play a vital role.
The first year of post-graduation diploma in management (PGDM) is a roller-coaster ride. It starts with a rigorous induction programme, demands to adapt with the academic rigour, networking with a diverse set of individuals, making new friends and learning the essence of teamwork by being a member of any club or committee.
Amid all this, the summer internship placement knocks the door. Summer internships are one of the most crucial parts of a B-School life as it gives hands-on experience about the industry we aspire to go for and also gives us clarity regarding what kind of work we are passionate about. It is also an opportunity to bag a pre-placement offer from your dream company.
Also, academically, summer internship project is a credit-based programme and marks are awarded based on one’s learning during the period.
The summer internship placement process is similar to the final placement process, so it was necessary to prepare well and grab the offer from your dream company. Generally, in most of the companies, group discussion is followed by a personal interview.
As a student, I was also facing a dilemma regarding how to prepare for the summer internship. These tips helped me grab an offer from one of the top FMCG companies where I always aspired to be:
- Peer learning: When it comes to peer learning, sharing ideas and discussion on current affairs with my batchmates and seniors enhanced my knowledge.
- Building up communication skills: I believe to clear any group discussion or interview, excellent communication skills work. To distinguish yourself from equally talented individuals, how well you communicate helps.
- Brush up current affairs: Reading newspaper daily is a must to get insights about the economy and also helps in speaking relevant issues during the group discussion.
- Confidence: Confidence is the key to win in life. It boosts your chances of cracking the interview.
To help the students ace the recruitment process, IMI Delhi facilitates students with mock interviews from notable alumni by organising “Harbingers of change” where alumni take interviews of students and give them proper feedback and boost their confidence. Also, by attending various business thought leadership sessions, my knowledge horizon is enhanced.
Internships not only enhance your knowledge but also helps in the final placement process as you can pitch your learning. Hence, internships play a vital role.
