In a conversation with Shiksha.com, experts at MET Institute of Management talk in detail about their MBA equivalent two-year PGDM programme. They share all important information on admission and selection process, placement trends, fee and accommodation. They have also listed reasons that make them better than the other management institutes in its league across India.

Here is the edited excerpt of the conversation:

Q: What is the difference between an MBA and a PGDM programme?

A: MBA or MMS are University-controlled programmes in which students are offered a university degree upon the completion of the curriculum. The curriculum is more theoretical and university-controlled.

However, the PGDM program gives students exposure to the practical environment so they can learn while studying theory. The curriculum is industry-embedded and is also revised time to time with the help of industry leaders. This helps students to cope up with the latest trends and practices in the corporate world. PGDM programmes are basically AICTE-approved Diploma programmes.

Q: What is the admission process of PDM Program at MET Institute of Management? And, what is the eligibility criteria?

A: The admission process of the PGDM programme consists of two important stages:

  1. Valid score of any nationally accepted qualifying exam such as MH-CET, CMAT, XAT, CAT, ATMA, GMAT, MAT
  2. SOP Video (Statement of Purpose)

To apply for admission at MET Institute of Management, the applicant must fulfil the eligibility criteria which means the applicant must have a minimum aggregate of 50 per cent in graduation from any recognised university or equivalent in any discipline.

Eligible candidates need to fill-up the form online by paying a nominal fee of Rs 1,900. Along with the form, they need to upload the necessary documents with SOP video which will be evaluated by the panel. In case, if required, the student can be called for telephonic or video-conferencing based interview round.

The admission will be offered on the basis of overall academic performance, qualifying exam result and SOP video. We do not follow any cut off system in the qualifying exam.

Q: What are the various specialisations offered to students?

A: We at MET Institute of Management offer specialisations to students considering the industrial needs of today. The specialisations include Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations & Systems.

All the students undergo the general curriculum in the first academic year in which they study all the subjects. Basis the first year, they can decide which specialisation they wish to pursue in the second year and hence, continue with the same.

Q: What is the total cost of the two-year PGDM program? Do you offer any loan assistance and scholarships?

A: The total cost of the two-year PGDM programme is Rs 8.10 lakh which is to be paid in two instalments, annually. In this fee amount, the student will be given a laptop for two years of the curriculum.

MET has worked out special educational loan schemes for qualifying candidates along with leading banks. Not exactly scholarship, but the Institute funds the complete education of two students every year belonging to the economically weaker section of the society. The students must qualify the criteria and also must submit the family’s income proofs to the management.

Q: Can you share some insights on placements?

A: As we say that PGDM is an industry-embedded programme hence the internships and placements play a key role in evaluating the success of our two years of efforts. It is mandatory for students to undergo two to three months of mandatory internship programme every year, This is facilitated through our corporate network and global alumni network

Also, we are known for our track record of 100 per cent placements. Out top recruiters include Edelweiss, Times of India, Hindustan Unilever Ltd, 99acres.com, Aditya Birla group, HDFC Bank, Zee Entertainment, Reliance Industries Ltd, ICICI Bank, SBI General Insurance, TATA Consultancy Services, Swiggy, KOTAK Life Insurance, E & Y, Deloitte, KPMG, Capital First, Morgan Stanley and many more.

We have witnessed the highest package of Rs 15.5 LPA in the last MET Institute of Management placements season with the average package being Rs 7.5-8 LPA.

Q: Do you also offer any additional programmes apart from the regular curriculum?

A: We believe in the holistic development of the students and hence, we not only focus on the curriculum but we also focus on the other value-added courses that makes our students stand apart from the crowd of management professionals. These courses include:

  • Design Thinking: MET PGDM is perhaps the only management college to have a comprehensive and practical course on this creative problem-solving methodology
  • Strategic Management: Many important aspects of organization management are covered e.g.: How China got ahead - illustrated through case studies on Chinese companies
  • Business Analytics: How to use data and quantitative analysis for decision making and efficient and effective working of organisation
