NEET 2021: In order to enable students to appear for NEET 2021 exam in the state itself, the Madras High Court on March 23 directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to establish an adequate/more number of NEET exam centres, for the next academic year. According to the reports, the directions regarding the establishment of more NEET exam centres in Tamil Nadu were released by the first bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Banerjee while disposing of a public interest writ petition from advocate Veerapillai Ramesh of Tiruvennainallur in Villupuram district.
The petition filed requesting more NEET exam centres states that the medical exam conducting authority, NTA on February 23 invited online applications from the students to write the NEET for admission in medical courses for 2021-22. While filling the same, as many as 255 exam centres had been identified throughout the country.
Official reports suggest that out of the total number of NEET exam centre, 28 centres were allotted to Tamil Nadu and just one centre was allotted to Puducherry. Within a few hours, the authority declared that all the 29 centres were full. Challenging the situtaion, the petitioner filed the present petition for a direction to the NTA to establish more exam centres in the state.
While disposing of the same petition, the judges directed the NTA to establish more number of exam centres in the state from the next academic year. The judges also clarified that any such direction for the present year at this stage would create unnecessary confusion in the minds of the students appearing for NEET exam 2021.
