State-Wise Total Medical Colleges and MBBS Seats in India 2026: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced the MBBS seat matrix 2026-27. The NMC seat matrix 2026 informs about the number of total medical colleges and MBBS seats in India that will be filled in academic session 2026-27. This year, the NMC has added total 9,911 new seats and renewed 127028 seats, taking the total number of MBBS seats in India to 1,36,939 for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). These MBBS seats will be filled in 823 medical colleges of India. However, the data of MBBS seats in Institutes of National Importance (INIs) such as AIIMS and JIPMER is still awaited.
As per the official NMC MBBS seat matrix data, Karnataka has maximum number of MBBS seats in India (15395), followed by Uttar Pradesh (14,000), Tamil Nadu (13,999), and Maharashtra (13,099). Read further to know state-wise medical colleges and MBBS seats in India 2026.
