Scoring 8 A grades, a Class 10 student rises above personal trials with unwavering focus and family strength
In the halls of VIBGYOR High, NIBM, 15-year-old Aditya Ashwin Aina has achieved an extraordinary academic milestone, securing 93.6% with 8 A grades in his Class 10 exams. Yet, his story transcends mere numbers, weaving a powerful narrative of courage, discipline, and hope. While his father underwent grueling cancer treatment, Aditya faced hospital visits, emotional strain, and the weight of uncertainty—challenges that would test anyone, let alone a teenager. Through it all, he channeled his strength into his studies, emerging as an inspiration for students, parents, and anyone navigating life’s toughest moments.
A Family’s Strength as a Guiding Light
Aditya’s journey was anchored by his family’s resilience. “Seeing my parents juggle dozens of medication orders, consultations, and difficult decisions while still trying to work and manage the home made me realize how much easier my role in the family was,” he shared in a candid interview with Shiksha.com.
A particularly vivid memory stands out: “By the time my father was diagnosed, we had suspected something was wrong. Nonetheless, when the test results came in, my father calmly and jovially told me over breakfast that he was unwell and would need intensive treatment. He didn’t get upset or angry over something that, through no fault of his own, would turn his life upside down. It was a great show of strength and maturity that has always stayed with me.”
Balancing Hospital Visits and Homework
Aditya’s routine during his father’s treatment was far from ordinary. Weekly infusions and oral chemotherapy for his father meant frequent hospital visits, which often kept him away from home. “I couldn’t always go with him, but when I did, I usually had to stay up late to finish my assignments,” he said.
Social time with friends and physical activities like playing downstairs took a backseat as he prioritized schoolwork. “Most of my free time went out the window,” he admitted, yet his commitment to his studies remained unshaken.
Talking to Shiksha.com, his parents marveled at his focus: “Aditya has been very calm throughout his ninth and tenth grade. There were tough moments and emergencies, but he made sure his preparations were on point.”
Finding Joy in Chemistry and English
Despite the emotional toll, Aditya found solace in his favorite subjects: chemistry and English. “Chemistry because there are so many different topics to study, and it’s a much more practical and useful science than physics,” he explained. “English because it’s so different from STEM subjects—there’s almost no knowledge to remember or apply. The marks come through your skills and how you express yourself.” These subjects became his refuge, offering a sense of control and creativity amid the chaos of his father’s illness. His academic passion fueled his drive, even when burnout threatened to derail him.
Overcoming Burnout and Doubt
The road to 93.6% wasn’t without its struggles. After his first preliminary exam, Aditya felt overwhelmed. “I’d gone over the syllabus dozens of times, both in and out of class, but still wasn’t seeing a great improvement in my marks,” he recalled. “Honestly, that feeling never went away.” Yet, small improvements in mock tests kept him going. “I was still able to work despite it, and felt more encouraged as my marks slowly started to rise,” he said. His school played a quiet but crucial role, offering flexibility with deadlines when hospital visits disrupted his schedule. “I rarely discussed my parents’ situation with my teachers, but they were sympathetic and accommodative,” he noted.
A Family Built on Openness
Aditya’s family provided an unshakable foundation. “We’ve always been a family of conversations,” his parents shared. “At least one meal a day is eaten together, and everything is discussed without fear.” This openness allowed Aditya to share his anxieties, even on hospital floors during his father’s treatment. “Gentle honesty has been our motto from day one, encouraging him to speak his mind,” his family said. They were both comforted and awed by his composure. “It was a bit scary to see our child keep his cool through adversities,” they admitted, adding, “His stability helped at home with chores and even looking after our dogs wholeheartedly.”
A Triumph Beyond the Marks
When Aditya saw his final result, relief washed over him. “I thought I had completely messed up a lot of my papers,” he said. “Two months before the exam, I would’ve been disappointed with 93.6%, since I was aiming for 95%+, but after giving the exams, I was happy.” For his family, the marks are secondary to the person he’s become. “We are blessed,” they said. “This tough journey has molded him into an intelligent, calm person who’ll handle life’s situations with humility and self-confidence.” Aditya himself has gained a profound perspective: “No matter how terrible your circumstances are, it’s still upon you to make something out of them. I’ve also realized how important it is to have close friends and family.”
Dreams of Recovery and Travel
Looking ahead, Aditya is still exploring his career path but holds a personal dream close to his heart: “I hope my father recovers smoothly so we can once again travel as a family—something I’m sure he misses.” His experience has reshaped his view of life and responsibility. To other students facing personal challenges, he offers hard-earned wisdom: “No one has to go through times like this alone. You shouldn’t be afraid to seek help. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed—everyone going through difficult events is doing so for the first time, so there’s no shame in being confused or anxious.”
Aditya Ashwin Aina’s story is a testament to the human spirit’s capacity to rise above adversity. His 93.6% is not just a score—it’s a symbol of hope, resilience, and the power of family. For anyone facing their own trials, Aditya’s journey is a reminder that even in the darkest moments, purpose and perseverance can light the way.
