Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan held meeting of the Consultative Committee on Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Teaching and Learning focusing on growing role of AI in improving learning outcomes across school and higher education.

Addressing committee Pradhan said that artificial intelligence has potential to address some of the most pressing challenges in education, particularly in making quality education more inclusive, accessible and equitable. He emphasised the government’s commitment to student-centric and personalised learning, improving learning outcomes and addressing the diverse needs of learners and educators.

AI integration aligned with NEP 2020

A detailed presentation on school education interventions highlighted how AI is being systematically integrated across education ecosystem in alignment with National Education Policy. Important curriculum reforms include introduction of age appropriate computational thinking and AI literacy from foundational stage, greater emphasis on project-based learning and formal inclusion of AI as a skill subject at the secondary level.

Presentation also showcased national digital initiatives leveraging AI, including DIKSHA 2.0, e-Jaadui Pitara, Guru-Mitra the TARA app, My Career Advisor and Vidya Samiksha Kendra. These platforms are being used for personalised learning, teacher support, career guidance, multilingual access, assessments and real-time monitoring of student.

Focus on higher education, research and employability

Another presentation focused on the use of AI in higher education, underlining its role in strengthening teaching-learning processes, research, innovation, and graduate employability. The discussion covered AI-enabled curriculum updates in centrally funded institutions, the integration of interdisciplinary and skill-based courses, and the expansion of digital and physical infrastructure to support advanced research and learning.

Officials noted that these initiatives aim to build future-ready graduates, foster innovation ecosystems within higher education institutions, and ensure that India’s higher education system remains globally competitive while being inclusive.
