The candidates should also check the answer id and question id on their response sheet and final keys to calculate their raw estimated marks in the exam. Note that the final answer keys will not be open for challenge, and the marks you estimate with the final keys will be your most probable score in the exam. JEE Main 2026 Tie-Breaking Rule Explained

What happens if two students get the same percentile in JEE Main 2026 session 1 result? In such cases, NTA follows a tie-breaking rule.

    • First, higher percentile in Mathematics is considered. If the tie still remains, Physics percentile is checked. After that, Chemistry percentile is considered.
    • If the tie is still not resolved, the candidate with fewer negative responses is given a better rank.

The tie-breaking criteria ensure fair ranking among candidates. Students are advised to check all details carefully after the JEE Main 2026 result is declared.

Marks vs Percentile in JEE Main 2026: What Students Should Know

After calculating raw marks using the final answer key, NTA converts them into percentile scores. Percentile tells the percentage of candidates who scored below a particular score. For example, if you get 99 percentile, it means you scored better than 99% of candidates. The JEE Main 2026 session 1 result will show subject-wise percentile and total percentile.

Expected marks vs percentile analysis will be available soon after the final answer key release. However, the official rank list will be based on normalized percentile, not raw marks.

As per the experts for session 1 exams, for the 99.99+ percentile, candidates have to score around 300 to 279 marks. For a percentile of 99.0 to 99.99, candidates will need around 269 to 160 marks. For a percentile score of around 98, candidates need to have a raw score of 140 to 159. Similarly, for 97 percentile candidates need to have 120 to 139 marks, for 96 percentile candidates need 119 to 110 marks. For 95 percentile, a score of 100 marks out of 300 will be needed.

  • Q:   How can I calculate my score using JEE Main answer key?
    A:

You can go find the marks from the answer key and response sheet. If one answer is correct, it's four marks. For an incorrect one, one mark is reduced. Then you can sum all.

Q:   How would I know if my challenge in JEE Mains answer key has been accepted?
    A:

In case the JEE Main answer key challenge raised by the candidate is accepted, the NTA will send an email to the registered email address mentioning the details of question for which the objections has been accepted. The NTA will also send the details of correct answer for the questions.

Q:   There is a difference in the answers I marked in the exam and what is shown in JEE Main response sheet. What should I do?
    A:

Candidates must know that the JEE Main response sheet will have the record of the answers marked by the candidate in the exam. If any candidate thinks that the answers marked by him in actual exam and the one shown in JEE Main response sheet are different, the answers marked in response sheet will be final. Candidates can not challenge the JEE Main response sheet.

JEE Main 2026 Final Answer Key to Decide Session 1 Result

The JEE Main 2026 final answer key plays a very important role in preparing the session 1 result. NTA first releases a provisional answer key and allows students to raise objections. After checking all objections, the final answer key is released.

No further challenges are accepted after the final answer key is published. The JEE Main 2026 session 1 result will be based completely on this final key. If any question is dropped, full marks are given to all candidates who attempted it. That is why students should carefully check the final answer key before the result is declared.

The final answer key will be available in PDF format. It will contain the correct answers for all shifts and all sets of question papers.

  • 11:45 PM IST7 Feb 2026

How JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Result Will Be Calculated

The JEE Main result is prepared using the JEE Main 2026 final answer key. For every correct answer, candidates get 4 marks. For every wrong answer, 1 mark is deducted. No marks are deducted for unanswered questions.

The raw score is first calculated based on this marking scheme. After that, NTA converts the raw score into percentile score. Percentile score is not the same as percentage. It shows how many candidates scored equal to or less than you.

The normalisation process is used because the exam is held in multiple shifts. This ensures fairness for all candidates. The final result will show subject-wise percentile and overall percentile. Students should understand that rank is prepared based on percentile, not raw marks.
