Odisha government is planning to upgrade physical-digital infrastructure in schools, improve teaching-learning by using technology

Odisha government is taking a leaf out of Delhi’s book to reform state-run government schools by improving their quality. Reacting to this comment, the Education Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia has said that the Delhi government will be more than willing to assist the Odisha government.

Recently, Manoj Kumar Mishra, Secretary Electronics, IT and Science and Technology in the Odisha government talking about bringing government schools on a par with high-end private schools said that the education sector was disrupted over the last 18 months and this gives them an opportunity to look at it in a fresh way. “The high school reform initiative will have a cascading impact on human development, social and economic growth, and making the youth more enterprising,” Mishra said.

“There is no problem in saying that we have taken a leaf out of Delhi, but Odisha is not Delhi, and our challenge and the outcome following a successful implementation will perhaps be greater, too," Mishra said, reported Mint.

Reacting to Mishra’s statement, Sisodia wrote on Twitter: “The Delhi government will be more than willing to assist the Odisha government, and we will also learn from their experiences and best practises.”

Sisodia also added: “We can truly transform India's education system if we all work together.”

Odisha government is planning to upgrade physical-digital infrastructure in schools, improve teaching-learning by using technology and promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning, besides several other measures.

The education, and science and technology secretaries have been entrusted with the task, which will first target high schools through an impact assessment model.

Mishara said that Odisha is targeting high schools (secondary schools) in a phased manner. In the first phase, more than 1,070 schools have been taken up, based on the results this will be followed in more number of schools.

However, he added that reforming school education sector, will be a tougher challenge in a state like Odisha, compared to Delhi due to complex social and topographical condititons.
