Kerala's KITE launched AVGC-integrated ICT textbooks on August 24, 2025, teaching animation, gaming, VFX, and music in schools with FOSS tools.
Kerala has integrated AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics) into its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) textbooks being offered in schools. The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), under the state’s education department, rolled out the revised textbooks that will be used in the 2025–26 academic session across government and aided schools.
Kerala has become first state in India to formally introduce AVGC modules into school education, aiming to prepare students for emerging opportunities in the creative and digital economy. According to officials, the revised ICT textbooks will feature practical lessons in animation, gaming, visual storytelling, and creative design, helping students understand how AVGC technologies work in real-world applications. The move is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), which emphasizes skill-based learning and new-age careers.
Education experts believe this step will not only boost digital literacy but also create a talent pipeline for the fast-growing AVGC sector, which the Indian government has identified as a sunrise industry. "With this initiative, Kerala has once again positioned itself as a trendsetter in education reforms, bridging the gap between school learning and industry-ready skills," said an official close to the development.
