Madhya Pradesh completes Aadhaar biometric update of over 15 lakh students under a school-based initiative. Updated Aadhaar mandatory for exams, scholarships and DBT schemes.

Madhya Pradesh government has completed the mandatory biometric update (MBU) of Aadhaar for over 15 lakh students under its initiative ‘Aadhaar for Students, Now at School’s Door’, for making essential documentation accessible within school premises.

This campaign is being implemented jointly by School Education Department, State Education Centre and Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to ensure students face no hurdles in accessing education-related services.

Aadhaar Biometric Update Mandatory for Exams and Scholarships

An updated biometrics-enabled Aadhaar card is mandatory for school admissions, competitive examinations, scholarships, and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes. The requirement has gained importance after major examination bodies such as the National Testing Agency (NTA) and UPSC made Aadhaar-based verification compulsory during application and at examination centres for national-level exams including JEE and NEET.

Mandatory biometric updates involve updating photograph, fingerprints and iris scan in Aadhaar records. As per UIDAI norms, first MBU is required at age of 5 and second at 15 and service is free for children aged 5 to 17 years.

Over 2,000 Schools Hosted Special Aadhaar Camps

Launched on August 15, 2025, the initiative saw the organisation of special Aadhaar biometric update camps in more than 2,000 schools across Madhya Pradesh. Between August 15 and December 31, 2025, over 1.5 million students completed their biometric updates through these camps and Aadhaar Seva Kendras.

To streamline the process, the UDISE+ portal, in coordination with UIDAI and the Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of India, enabled schools to track pending Aadhaar biometric updates of students, allowing timely action.

CBSE Regional Office in Madhya Pradesh has also directed all affiliated schools to motivate parents and students to complete pending MBUs without delay.

Focus on Rural and Tribal Areas

Officials said the Aadhaar update drive will continue till the end of the current academic session, with special emphasis on rural and tribal regions, ensuring maximum student coverage under the initiative.
