"The government has decided that all the Sainik Schools in the country will also be opened for the daughters of the country,” Modi said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that admission at Sainik Schools in India will now allow admission of girl students. Modi said that the doors of Sainik Schools should be opened for girls too.
PM Modi speaking on the occasion of the country's 75th Independence Day said: “I used to get messages from lakhs of daughters that they also want to study in Sainik School, the doors of Sainik Schools should be opened for girls too.”
Modi unfurled the national flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort and said that two-and-a-half years ago, the experiment of admitting daughters was done for the first time in Sainik School in Mizoram.
“Now the government has decided that all the Sainik Schools in the country will also be opened for the daughters of the country,” Modi said.
There are 33 Sainik Schools in the country and the Ministry of Defense (MoD) has announced 100 more in public-private partnership (PPP) mode, these schools are managed by the Sainik Schools Society.
NEP 2020: Means to fight poverty
Taking about the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 Modi said that there is another special feature of the new National Education Policy, in this, sports have been made a part of mainstream education instead of extracurricular. “Sports are also one of the most effective means in advancing life,” PM Modi said.

Modi government announced the new education policy last year in July, which replaces the three-decade-old education policy. “Today the country also has a new 'National Education Policy to meet the needs of the 21st century,” PM said.
‘Indus Central University’
Speaking on the occasion of Independence Day, he said that Ladakh has also progressed towards its limitless possibilities of development.
Speaking about the new central university in Leh, Modi said: “On the one hand, Ladakh is witnessing the creation of modern infrastructure, while on the other hand, Indus Central University is also going to make Ladakh a centre of higher education.”
The central government has earmarked Rs 750 crore for the establishment of a central university in Ladakh.
