In a significant move, two subjects introduced in the 2023-24 academic year, namely ARTI (Artificial Intelligence) and DTSC (Data Science and Technology), will be withdrawn. Instead, AIDS (Artificial Intelligence and Data Science) will be introduced as a new subject for WBCHSE Exam 2025.

The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has introduced significant changes in the Class 12 Higher Secondary (HS) curriculum, which will come into effect from the 2025-26 academic session. These changes are aimed at offering students a broader range of subjects and enhancing their academic flexibility. The revised curriculum will apply to students who register for the 2025-26 academic year onwards.

Introduction of New Subjects and Revised Subject Combinations

The Council has introduced five new subjects to the curriculum for WB Class 12 students. These subjects are expected to offer students diverse academic options to choose from, thus broadening their learning scope. The newly introduced subjects include:

  • Environmental Science (EVSC)
  • Fisheries and Aquaculture (FSAQ)
  • Business Mathematics and Basic Statistics (BMBS)
  • Basic Mathematics and Social Science (BMSS)

Additionally, the Council has revised the subject combinations available to students, enabling them to pursue a mix of subjects that aligns better with their academic and career goals.

Withdrawal of ARTI and DTSC, Introduction of AI and Data Science

In a significant move, two subjects introduced in the 2023-24 academic year, namely ARTI (Artificial Intelligence) and DTSC (Data Science and Technology), will be withdrawn. Instead, AIDS (Artificial Intelligence and Data Science) will be introduced as a new subject. This subject will be available in all schools, either alongside ARTI or DTSC. The changes are part of the Council's effort to provide a more streamlined and relevant curriculum for students interested in technology and data science.

Eligibility Criteria for New Subject Teachers

Along with the curriculum changes, WBCHSE has also notified the eligibility criteria for teachers to be recruited for the newly introduced subjects. These measures ensure that qualified and competent faculty will teach the new subjects, thus maintaining the quality of education.

Important Dates for WB Class 12 HS 2025 Exams

The WBCHSE Class 12 Exams 2025 are scheduled to be held from March 3 to March 18, 2025. On the first day of exams, students will appear for Bengali (A), English (A), Hindi (A), Nepali (A), Urdu, Santhali, Odia, Telugu, Gujarati, and Punjabi papers. The exams will be conducted from 10:00 am to 1:15 pm, with an additional 15-minute reading time provided to students before the exam begins.

Exam Duration and Special Provisions for Certain Subjects

While the exams for most subjects will be conducted for three hours, there will be special provisions for certain subjects. For example, Health and Physical Education, Visual Arts, Music, and Vocational Subjects will have a shorter exam duration of two hours (from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm).

Step Towards Enhanced Education

These curriculum changes and the new subject introductions are seen as part of the WBCHSE's effort to modernize and diversify the academic offerings for students. By incorporating emerging fields like Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, as well as providing a balanced mix of traditional and contemporary subjects, the Council aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in an increasingly globalized and technologically advanced world.

As students prepare for their WB Class 12 Board Exams 2025, they are advised to stay updated on the revised curriculum and subject combinations to make informed choices for their academic paths.
