The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) along with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) have jointly launched the Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF), a two-year fellowship programme.

The programme will be delivered by the Centre of Public Policy (CPP) of IIM-B, an independent public interest-oriented policy think-tank engaged in pioneering research, training, teaching, and capacity-building. The programme is launched on a pilot basis in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, Meghalaya, and Uttarakhand.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to apply for the fellowship, candidates must have completed their undergraduate studies from a recognized university. They must be between 21-30 years and should be residents of India.

On completion of the course, the fellows will be awarded a certificate in Public Policy and Management from IIM Bangalore.

Speaking on the occasion, G Raghuram, IIM-B Director said, “The MGNF is aimed to identify and train a group of young, committed and dynamic individuals, who will leverage the IIM-B ecosystem in entrepreneurship, public policy, and management and work with the district administration in strengthening the process of skilling to create a vibrant local district economy. The unique design of this programme will allow the fellows to take academic learning at IIM Bangalore and use it in the field, under faculty mentorship, with the goal of understanding barriers and challenges that the district ecosystem faces in fostering growth and development.”

The focus of the programme at the district level is to help the Mahatma Gandhi Fellow negotiate the district-specific challenges in the context of documenting weaknesses at the district level, identifying schemes that can be implemented, undertaking a detailed resource mapping, and formulating a rigorously researched District Development Plan that chart out a strategy for economic development at the district that the fellows are assigned to.
