ARWU Rankings 2021: Calcutta University secures second position; Mamata Banerjee congratulates teachers, students
Among all the Universities and Institutes in the country, the University of Calcutta is second only to the prestigious Indian Institute of Science.
ARWU Ranking 2021: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated all teachers, administration staff, and students of Calcutta University after it secured the second position in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU)
The Chief Minister posted from her Twitter handle: "Extremely pleased to share that the 2021 Academic Ranking of World Universities has informed the Government of West Bengal that Calcutta University is one of the top-ranking universities in India! Congratulations to all teachers, administration staff, and our dear students."
"Today on the momentous occasion of the 75th anniversary of our country's independence, we, the University of Calcutta fraternity, have yet another cause of celebration. Shanghai Ranking - Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), 2021 has adjudged the University of Calcutta as the best among all universities across India. Among all the Universities and Institutes in the country, the University of Calcutta is second only to the prestigious Indian Institute of Science. This success and international recognition should be seen as a result of the sustained efforts of our brilliant members of faculty, our dedicated researchers, our sincere non-teaching colleagues as well as our bright students," Calcutta University said in a statement.
As per the ARWU Ranking 2021, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) stood on the number one rank while the University of Calcutta was on the second spot among all premier higher educational institutions in the country.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities, also known as the Shanghai Ranking, is one of the annual publications of world university rankings.
