The phenomenal growth in the country in communication technology presents a tremendous scope for the entertainment and media industry.

In cooperation with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, the government is all set to set up a ‘Centre of Excellence’ which will offer courses in Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics, the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar announced. The minister, while addressing during a submit, stated that the centre will undertake initiatives to promote entrepreneurship and encourage startups in the sector. Talking further the minister said that there is a phenomenal growth in the country in communication technology and it also presents a tremendous scope for the entertainment and media industry.

Calling animation, visual effects, gaming and Comics a budding sector, he said that it is provisioning backend support to the top filmmakers of the world and it is time for the professionals to start doing more for the films so that the use of animation and graphics in Indian films grows. 

IIT Bombay to offer the course in Animation, Visual effects, gaming and Comics

The course will be offered by the Centre of Excellence in cooperation with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. The minister also invited the attendees to participate in the 51st International Film Festival of India in Goa in January 2021. A special pavilion will also be set up in Cannes in 2022 as the Cannes Festival celebrates 75 years and India will be hosting a Global Media and Film Summit next year. While speaking on the occasion, Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati stated that different channels under the public broadcaster created content to generate mass awareness during the COVID-19 pandemic.
