Delhi University has announced that it is mandatory for students who will fail to clear their practical exams to attend extra classes. The students who fail in their practical exams will be required to re-take their classes for a whole semester before they clear or declared a pass.

Delhi University has recently altered the assessment pattern for undergraduate students. As per the new pattern, DU has decided to emphasise continuous evaluation and tutorials. Based on the rules before this, any student who fails would be registered as an “ex-student” so that they could re-appear for the exam.

“So another point was added to the existing rule that student having failed to pass any practical examination of the university through Continuous Evaluation System will be eligible to seek re-admission only for re-appearing in the said practical examination through Continuing Evaluation System,” the DU official said, as reported by Times Now.

As per the University official, the resolution was accepted in December 2020 and came into effect from 2022 to 2023 academic session at the varsity. The official further added that this amendment to the assessment rules felt necessary after DU adopted the new continuous evaluation scheme in 2020.

"Consider an MSc student who couldn't attend his classes for a particular subject because he fell ill but still took the examination. His mark sheet would show ER (Essential repeat) in the practical section," the official explained. "But, students cannot clear their practical examinations without attending and taking their classes. Hence DU has decided to ensure that those students who are failing take their classes again for one semester in order to pass," he added.
