IIT Roorkee extends help for fight against COVID-19 in Uttarakhand; donates oxygen cylinders
The institute has donated 14 oxygen cylinders to Roorkee Civil Hospital and another set of 51 non-oxygen cylinders have been converted into oxygen cylinders.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has donated oxygen cylinders to Roorkee Civil Hospital and has augmented the efforts of the government for tackling the second wave of covid-19 cases. IIT Roorkee has taken this decision to help the Uttarakhand government after reviewing the pandemic situation and to further help them to make available beds and oxygen to the patients in need in the state.
Under several initiatives of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, the institute has donated 14 oxygen cylinders to Roorkee Civil Hospital and another set of 51 non-oxygen cylinders have been converted into oxygen cylinders, they have set up a 150 bedded care center Ganga Bhawan inside the campus of Institute. Also, the IIT Roorkee has made available Chandra Bose Club to use as a vaccination Centre to benefit the local population outside of the IIT Roorkee campus.
Director of IIT Roorkee, Professor Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi says, " the spike in coronavirus cases across the country has led to a shortage of beds and oxygen causing untold hardship to the patient these initiatives are in line with our commitment to augment the efforts of the government to help our country tide over these unprecedented times."
Chief medical superintendent of Civil Hospital, Roorkee while expressing his gratitude said, " the oxygen cylinders will help tackle oxygen shortage for coronavirus patients we are in indebted to IIT Roorkee for this noble initiative. We hope that IIT Roorkee will continue to inspire the youth through its various social initiatives."
