Rahul Kapoor, a PhD student of Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women's Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has been chosen to take part in the prominent European Parliament Sakharov Fellowship Programme. The fellowship programme is supported completely by the European Parliament and is two-week long. The programme consists of training in the European Parliament in Brussels and a place on the Venice School of Human Rights planned by the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation.
The programme at the Venice School of Human Rights consists of a sequence of seminars, lectures and workshops on rights of the child, human rights defenders and gender equality. The faculty of the programme consists of eminent members of the European Parliament, Sakharov Prize Laureates, academicians and representatives of foremost human rights NGOs. Jamia Millia Islamia provides a favourable academic and learning atmosphere where one can pay attention on research as well as involve fruitfully with several social and human rights matters in the society.
He will be learning about the several human rights instruments and rules of the European Union and will also get an opportunity to discuss with members of the European Parliament and learn from their huge experiences in the domain of human rights, child rights, and gender rights. He has also attained his M.Phil research from the Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women's Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia under the guidance of Dr Firdous Azmat Siddiqui.
