Maharashtra governor forms panels for selection of VCs for Mumbai University, SPPU
Maharashtra governor and chancellor of universities Bhagat Singh Koshyari have constituted two search committees for the selection of the vice-chancellors at Mumbai University and Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). It must be noted that currently both universities are being run by the heads who are holding the vice-chancellorship of other public universities.
The search committee will be headed by former UGC Chairman D P Singh for the selection of the Mumbai University Vice-Chancellor. While the search panel for the selection of the vice chancellor of the SPPU will be headed by former AICTE chairman Anil Sahasrabuddhe, who was incidentally also the SPPU VC before he joined AICTE.
Pramod Kumar Jain, director, of Indian Institute of Technology, (BHU) Varanasi, Anand Limaye, additional chief secretary (home) and Suresh Kumar, VC of the English and Foreign Languages University Hyderabad (UGC nominee) will be the other members of the search committee for the selection of MU VC.
Abhay Karandikar, Director, IIT, Kanpur; Deepak Kapoor, additional chief secretary, irrigation department; Meena Chandawarkar, chief advisor-quality assurance; and BVV Sangha, Bagalkot and former vice chancellor of Karnataka State Women's University Vijaypura (UGC nominee) have been named as members of the search panel for the selection of VC of the SPPU.
The term of MU vice chancellor Suhas Pednekar ended on September 10, 2022. Since then, Shivaji University VC Digambar Shirke has been holding the additional charge of the post of MU VC. The term of VC Nitin Karmalkar ended on May 18, 2022. Karbhari Kale, VC of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere, has been holding the additional charge of SPPU VC.
