The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela has announced that it has signed an agreement with its distinguished alumni Venkata Narasimham Peri to work on the upliftment of backward regions of Koraput, Balangir and Kalahandi in Odisha. Venkata Narasimham Peri is the sponsor of its Poverty Alleviation Research Centre (PARC). With this research project, NIT Rourkela aims to make a significant contribution to reducing poverty in that region.
The agreement was signed during the diamond jubilee celebrations of the institute.

"Institutes like NIT Rourkela plays a significant role in India's call for 'Vocal for Local', and 'Local for Global'. I appeal to the students to aim to create jobs rather than seeking jobs. I believe this institution is doing wonders, with the help of FTBI (Foundation for Technology and Business Incubation)," Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' said at the virtual event.

NIT Rourkela is an Institute of National Importance funded by the Government of India. The deemed university is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and has been accredited by the NAAC with 'A' Grade. It offers BTech, BArch, MTech, MBA, MSc and PhD programmes in various specialisations. NIT Rourkela has a total of 20 departments, 363 faculty members and 6,155 students. So far, over 7,800 papers have been published by the scholars of various departments. The deemed university also organises seminars, workshops and industrial visits.

It must be noted that the NIT Rourkela admission process for MBA 2021-23 batch is currently open. Candidates, willing to secure admission, can apply on the official website till February 15 with a valid CAT score. Shortlisted candidates will be further analysed in the GD and PI round for final admission.
