Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has announced that it will begin the summer examination in offline mode from June 20. The University has now said that the students will be given extra 15 minutes for every hour of the examination.

Meanwhile, the student activists approached the Bombay High Court requesting commonality in all universities. They even requested that the exams should be held in offline mode but in a multiple-choice-questions (MCQ) manner. However, the Director of Examination and Evaluation Mahesh Kakade during a meeting with technical education minister Uday Samant decided that the exams be conducted in a traditional offline pattern. On Sunday, the varsity also released a notification stating the same, on its official website.

Students however will get extra 15 minutes for every hour of the examination. The move comes with an aim to help students get acclimatized to the paper pattern. Students will also be given a two-day gap between each consecutive exam to help them prepare for the examination.

While speaking on the same, Kakade said, “Model Question Papers would be uploaded on the university’s website. If there are two examinations in one day, there would be a one-hour gap. It is up to the examination officers in each Institute to ensure that the teachers and students of the respective college know these features and if there are doubts, they are requested to resolve them.”

However, the decision has been strongly criticised by the Yuvak Kranti Dal and Yuva Sena(Youth wing of Shivsena) members who are calling it out as unfair. They are criticising the move saying that all universities across Maharashtra must follow the same pattern of examination or else it is an injustice to the students.
