Colleges and Universities across Maharashtra reopened for offline classes from today; i.e. October 20, 2021. The colleges and universities have been closed for over one-and-a-half years due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. As per the guidelines released by the state government, only those students who are fully vaccinated will be allowed to attend the classroom session. For those students who cannot attend the physical classes in the wake of the fully vaccinated criteria, the option of attending the live lectures or continuing the online lectures facility has been provided by most of the colleges.

Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant had earlier announced that all the colleges and universities in the state can conduct physical classes from October 20 and students need to be fully vaccinated in order to attend the offline classroom session.

The move comes after schools across the state were reopened to resume physical sessions for Classes 5 to 12 on October 4. All non-agricultural colleges, state-run universities, deemed universities, self-financed universities and colleges affiliated to them have been asked to hold physical classes with effect from today by the state government.

The Minister had also said earlier that every university should issue the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to the colleges affiliated with it. Based on the directives of the state government, Mumbai University on Sunday had issued SOPs for all colleges affiliated with it.

As per the SOPs, the classrooms can have only 50 per cent of students of the total capacity. Also, colleges should give the students an option for online or offline sessions.
