Delhi police bust JEE, GMAT exam scam, 6 held

The gang charged between INR 8 lakh and 10 lakh for JEE exam and INR 6-8 lakh for GMAT exam from each candidate.  

The cyber cell of the Delhi police has busted an online exam hacking racket with the arrest of six persons who were allegedly helping aspirants cheat in Graduate Management Admission Test examination (GMAT) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) across the country. 

Gang hired Russian hackers to develop software for cheating 

The gang reportedly charged INR 8-10 lakh from each candidate for JEE exams and around INR 6-8 lakh for GMAT and made money to the tune of INR 50-60 crore. As per the police, the accused operating from Mumbai, Delhi-NCR and Rajasthan had hired Russian hackers who developed a software to hack computers at examination centres remotely. The software was developed in a way that it could not be detected by proctors.  

The accused have been identified as Arshad Dhunna (39), Salman Dhunna (28) and Hemal Shah (42), all residents of Mumbai, Kunal Goel (39), a resident of Delhi, while Mohit Sharma (35) and Raj Teotia (33), both residents of Karnal in Haryana. The key accused, Raj Teotia, has allegedly been running the racket since 2019. According to the police, he went to Russia to meet and hire hackers for the gang and also invited them to India during the lockdown to set up the software. 

A police official said, “The gang helped over 500 candidates clear JEE and other entrance tests and 18 candidates clear the GMAT exam. The scam is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).”
