Delhi Teachers University to offer seven courses, check details

The Delhi Teachers University will offer seven programs and aims to become a world-class teacher education institute. During the first meeting of the Board of Management of the University, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the education sector is dominated by Finland, Singapore, Japan, America, and other European countries.

Delhi Teachers University: Courses

The seven courses to be offered include a four-year Integrated BEd Program, a two-year BEd Programme, a two-year BEd Program for Special Education, a three-year Integrated BEd-MEd Programme, a three-year MA Education Programme, a one-year Certificate Programme (School Education) and a one-year Certificate Programme (Higher Education).

“Delhi Teachers University would be the answer. This would allow India to be considered among the top countries of the world in the field of teachers’ education. The teaching profession has become the last resort for everyone today. The Delhi Teachers University will change this perspective, encourage the youth towards the profession, and produce hundreds of excellent teachers after every session. Such excellent teachers will further prepare the future of the country for tomorrow by delivering quality education to their students,” he said.

At the Board meeting, it was discussed that “unlike most teacher training courses currently offered in the country, the courses offered at Delhi Teachers University will not focus solely on subject knowledge”.

“Instead, capacity building of trainees will be in focus. They will be equipped with practical skills so that they can be better prepared for classroom teaching. It was also discussed in the meeting that the Teachers University would not only emphasize teacher training but also focus on fundamental and applied research in the field of education. The trainees in the university will be exposed to excellent pedagogical practices by expert faculty,” the Delhi government said in a statement.

On the occasion, Delhi Teachers University VC Dhananjay Joshi said the Delhi Teachers University will work to fulfil the vision of the Delhi government for education and will emerge as the best institution of teacher education.

Rukmini Banerji, CEO, Pratham Education Foundation said that we are studying the models of reputed global universities including Stanford University, Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania etc. and will incorporate the best practices here.

Ameeta Mulla Wattal, Chairperson and Executive Director of Education (Innovation and Training), DLF Foundation Schools said the “University would adopt a multidisciplinary approach where trainees would get world-class training through innovative curriculum and expert faculty”.
