Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' has released the learning Enhancement Guidelines for students, formulated by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The guidelines have been formulated to ensure students do not suffer any academic loss during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemix.

The Education Minister said that amid the pandemic situation, institutions under the Ministry of Education have been working together attempting to take school education to children at home through various digital means. He said, "The documents such as Alternative Academic Calendar, PRAGYATA Guidelines, Digital Education-India Report, NISHTHA-Online, etc are some of the initiatives that have been undertaken to maintain continuity in school education for children.”

“Amidst efforts to provide school education to the students through alternative ways, concerns from various stakeholders were raised about the learning of those children who do not have access to digital resources. In addition to this, it was also revealed that due to unequal access to digital resources to get school education at home, the concerns of equity and inclusion can lead to deficiencies in learning of children,” he said.

With a view to address the issues related to gaps and/or loss of learning among students, during and after the lockdown, the Ministry of Education entrusted NCERT with the task of constituting
a Committee, comprising of academic and curricular experts drawn from NCERT, NIEPA, CBSE, KVS and NVS.  It is applicable for the present situation and for the post-pandemic situation. The guidelines will be  helpful to students in three types of situations:

  • When students do not have any digital resources
  • When students have limited digital resources available
  • When students have digital resources available for online education with them
