COMEDK UGET 2025: Over 17,000 Seats Remain Vacant After Round 4 Counselling; Trend Analysis
In a significant update on the COMEDK UGET 2025 counselling process, the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) has published the vacant seat report after round 4, revealing that 17,190 engineering seats remain unfilled.
The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) has released the COMEDK UGET 2025 seat allotment for round 4. Alongside, the authority has published a comprehensive vacant seats list following the COMEDK 2025 round 4 counselling. As per the COMEDK UGET vacant seats report 2025, 17,190 engineering seats are still left out.
Candidates can check the course-wise vacant seats reported at the various participating institutions after four rounds of the COMEDK UGET counselling 2025. For example, Acharya Institute of Technology in Bengaluru has 38 CSE seats, 45 ECE seats, 8 Civil seats, and 4 Data Science seats remaining vacant. The COMEDK UGET round 4 counselling started with 19,242 vacant seats and ended with a marginal difference of 2,052 seats.
Of the 26,827 engineering seats available at the beginning of the COMEDK 2025 counselling, only 9,637 seats have been filled after four rounds. The enormity of unfilled seats across branches shows that the offered seats have far surpassed demand. This means a severe fall in interest among students or misalignment in the seat allotment process.
It is most marked in the case left out seats for core engineering branches like Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, with relatively lower demand, as compared to new, high-demand branches such as AI & ML and Data Science. Students have been selective about colleges or branches, or have moved to other routes of admission via JEE Mains/State entrances.
Why the Increasing Vacant Seats?
Increased number of empty seats for COMEDK 2025 counselling can be interpreted as:
- Changes in Branch Preferences: Students increasingly favour Computer Science, AI, and IT-related streams, which is evident with fewer vacancies seen in these streams and more in the core engineering branches.
- Institutional Reputation: Top colleges continue to attract higher cutoffs, while others struggle to fill seats.
- Admission Strategies: The fee structures, scholarships and marketing could also play a larger role in influencing student decisions.
- Exploring other Options: Students may be looking at admission to government colleges or through other counselling and entrance exams.
The authorities may consider a mop-up or spot round; however, there is no official announcement on the same.
